What is Bidil

ChlorhexidineThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryNitroprusside is a medication used to treat chest pain (angina) caused by reduced blood flow to the heart. It works by relaxing the blood vessels, allowing more blood to flow to the heart. The effects of nitroprusside are similar to those of nitroglycerin, but it takes longer for it to take effect.

Effectiveness

How Bidil Affects PatientsIsosorbide Dinitrate is a long-lasting medication used to prevent and treat chest pain (angina). It works by relaxing the blood vessels and increasing the size of veins and arteries, which helps reduce the strain on the heart. This in turn decreases the blood pressure and relieves chest pain.
How Bidil works in the bodyIsosorbide dinitrate works by increasing levels of cyclic guanosine 3',5'-monophosphate (cGMP). This activates protein kinases, which then cause myosin light chains in smooth muscle fibres to dephosphorize. This releases calcium ions, which cause the smooth muscles to relax and widen the blood vessels for better circulation.

When to interrupt dosage

The amount of Bidil is contingent upon the diagnosed affliction, such as Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), Congestive Heart Failure and self-declared black. The quantity of dosage fluctuates, per the technique of delivery (e.g. Tablet, extended release - Oral or Tablet - Oral) featured in the table beneath.

Bidil for Chronic Heart Failure
This drug made a huge difference for me in just a week. I was feeling weak and tired all the time from my heart failure, but after taking this medication I could do so much more. My blood pressure and level of activity have both greatly improved.

Bidil for Chronic Heart Failure
The side effects of this drug are really inconvenient. I'm constantly tired and dizzy, which makes it hard to take care of my kids. And if I eat anything, I immediately feel the need to take a nap.

Bidil for Chronic Heart Failure
From a medical standpoint, this was working. However, it gave me such a headache and raised my blood pressure to the point where I now have double vision and can't go to work. This seems like the worst thing I've ever been prescribed.

Patient Q&A Section about bidil

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

What class of drug is BiDil?

"Isosorbide dinitrate is a drug that dilates blood vessels, making it easier for blood to flow through them and easier for the heart to pump. BiDil is used to treat heart failure in certain patients."

Answered by AI

What are the side effects of BiDil?

"aching legs

I'm experiencing a headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, fast heartbeat, swollen ankles, and aching legs."

Answered by AI

What is BiDil used for?

"BiDil is approved for use with other heart medicines to treat heart failure in black patients to improve survival and heart failure symptoms, and help patients stay out of the hospital longer. However, there is little experience in using BiDil for patients with heart failure who experience significant symptoms while at rest."

Answered by AI

Is BiDil FDA approved?

"The FDA approved BiDil as an adjunct to standard therapy for the treatment of heart failure in self-identified black patients with cardiac disease, based on three clinical trials that showed the "dramatic effectiveness" of BiDil in black patients alone."

Guided Imagery Therapy for Abdominal Pain

7 - 12
All Sexes
Austin, TX
Chronic abdominal pain is common among children, and the majority of cases are attributed to functional abdominal pain disorders. One approach to treating these disorders is by using psychological therapies. This clinical trial aims to see how well pre-recorded guided imagery therapy sessions help children's abdominal pain when delivered via a mobile application (app) on a smartphone or tablet. Participants will complete a baseline abdominal pain and stooling diary to determine eligibility, as well as other surveys. Eligible participants will be given access to the guided imagery therapy mobile application. This intervention asks participants to listen to a 10- to 15-minute GIT session 5 out of 7 days per week for 8 weeks, in addition to their usual care for their abdominal pain. Then, participants will complete another abdominal pain and stooling diary, along with other psychometric surveys, at the end of this intervention period. Participants will also collect another diary and surveys 3 months post-treatment.

Erector Spinae Plane Block for Pain

21 - 75
All Sexes
Cleveland, OH
As per usual care for spine surgery, participants will have their back cleaned with alcohol and a needle will be placed using ultrasound for the ESP block. Through the needle, a small catheter will be placed in the participants back and the needle removed. Approximately one hour prior to the start of surgery, a numbing medication (ropivacaine, similar to Novocaine) in combination with dexmedetomidine (a pain medicine that is used in nerve block and that is not a narcotic) and contrast dye (iohexol) will be injected through the catheter. Participants will then go through the QST procedure (test of buzzing sensation and temperature sensation through pads applied to their skin) to assess the numb areas and then head to the operating room. In the operating room, the catheter will be removed after the surgeon obtains baseline CT scan images of the spine. Once surgery is completed, investigators will record pain scores over the next four days in the hospital and the amount of pain medication needed for controlling pain related to the surgery.

Motivational Interviewing for Oral Hygiene

14 - 19
All Sexes
Birmingham, AL
This study is being conducted to explore how motivational interviewing (MI), A patient-centered counseling method, can help improve oral health awareness and practices in adolescents undergoing orthodontic treatment. Adolescents often struggle to maintain good oral hygiene during orthodontic care, which can lead to complications such as gum disease, tooth decay, and poor treatment outcomes. Participants in this study will receive brief, structured conversations focused on encouraging them to set goals and take responsibility for their oral health. These interviews are designed to be non-judgmental and supportive, helping the participants explore their own motivations for keeping their teeth and gums healthy during braces treatment. The study will take place at a pediatric dentistry clinic and will involve adolescents aged approximately 14 to 19 who are receiving orthodontic care. The goal is to assess whether this type of communication improves their oral hygiene behaviors and outcomes compared to standard oral health education. Findings from this research may help pediatric dentists and orthodontists improve how they engage adolescent patients in taking care of their oral health.

Antibacterial Soap + Ointment for Wound Infection

18+
All Sexes
Marlton, NJ
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if reducing bacterial load on the skin and nostrils with topical antibacterial soap and ointment, respectively, reduces rate of infection in surgical sites on lower leg wounds left open to heal in adults undergoing skin cancer surgery. The main question it aims to answer is: Does Hibiclens antibacterial skin cleanser and mupirocin antibacterial ointment applied to nostrils prior to surgery lower the number of times participants develop an infection in their open wound on the lower leg? Researchers will compare the treatment group to the standard of care, which involves no treatment prior to surgery, to see if topical antibiotics applied prior to surgery affect infection rates between the two groups. Participants randomized to the treatment group will: Shower with Hibiclens once daily for 5 days prior to the day of surgery and apply mupirocin to the nostrils twice daily for 5 days prior to the day of surgery. They will then send pictures of their surgical site to monitor for signs of infection at 2-week and 4-week post-operation. Participants randomized to the control group (standard of care) will: NOT apply the topical antibacterials prior to the day of surgery. They will then send pictures of their surgical site to monitor for signs of infection at 2-week intervals for 1 month after surgery.
