What is Zyfrel

HydrocodoneThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryHydrocodone is a pain medication derived from codeine. It is usually combined with acetaminophen to treat moderate to severe pain. In the past, it was often used as a cough suppressant, but it has been mostly replaced by dextromethorphan in current cough and cold medications. Hydrocodone's more powerful form, hydromorphone, is used for more severe pain and was approved by the FDA in 1943.

Effectiveness

How Zyfrel Affects PatientsHydrocodone is a drug that blocks pain signals from being sent to the brain and spine, which reduces pain. It can also cause feelings of pleasure, shallow breathing, and drowsiness.
How Zyfrel works in the bodyHydrocodone works by attaching to two types of opioid receptors in the body. The first is the mu opioid receptor, and the second is the delta opioid receptor. When the receptors are activated, it causes a reaction in the body that reduces pain signals and suppresses the cough reflex. It also releases dopamine in the brain, which produces a feeling of pleasure. This can lead to addiction. Hydrocodone also reduces the GABAergic tone in certain parts of the brain, which can lead to sedation and respiratory depression. Finally, it can also activate inhibitory neurons in the spinal cord, further reducing pain signals.

When to interrupt dosage

The measure of Zyfrel is contingent upon the diagnosed condition, such as Coughing, Coughing and Chronic Pain. The amount of dosage changes, in accordance with the approach of delivery (e.g. Tablet, extended release - Oral or Tablet - Oral) specified in the table beneath.

Zyfrel Toxicity & Overdose RiskTaking too much hydrocodone can lead to serious side effects, such as trouble breathing, extreme drowsiness, low muscle tone, cold and clammy skin, small pupils, fluid in the lungs, slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, blocked airways, abnormal snoring, and death. If this happens, medical attention is necessary. Treatment may include giving oxygen and fluids through an IV, using drugs to maintain circulation, and using naloxone, an opioid antagonist, to reverse the drug's effects. Monitoring is still necessary after naloxone is administered as the opioid effects may return. In patients who are already opioid
