Effectiveness

How Zosyn Affects Patients

Piperacillin is a type of antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial infections caused by certain types of bacteria. It works by preventing the bacteria from forming their cell walls, which stops them from growing. It is able to resist being broken down by certain enzymes, so it can fight many different kinds of bacteria.

How Zosyn works in the body

Piperacillin works by binding to certain proteins in the bacterial cell wall. This prevents the bacteria from completing the process of creating a new cell wall. This leaves the bacteria vulnerable to its own cell wall-destroying enzymes, which causes the bacteria to break apart and die.

When to interrupt dosage

The recommended amount of Zosyn is subject to the diagnosed circumstance, such as Contagious Diseases, Nosocomial Pneumonia and Communicable Diseases. The dosage varies based on the mode of administration (e.g. Powder, for solution - Intramuscular; Intravenous or Injection, powder, lyophilized, for solution) enumerated in the table below.

Zosyn for Diabetic Foot Infection

I've tried oral medication for three months now, to no avail. I'm currently in the hospital and we've switched tactics. I'm using 3.375gm per 100ml 4 times a day and it's working well so far with no negative side effects after 5 days.

Zosyn for Complicated Skin Infection

I ruptured my appendix, but arrived at the ER just in time. They put me on Zosyn every 6 hours for a total of 13 round the clock administrations. It was touch-and-go there for a while, but I'm grateful to be alive and kicking today.

Zosyn for Pneumonia caused by Bacteria

I was given this medication after hernia surgery. I had some fluid around the mesh. Within 36 hours I had a rash all over my body which I was then diagnosed with Steven's Jojnson Syndrome (skin fell off entire body). Along with that my kidneys shut down. Just before they were to put me on dialisys my kidneys began to improve. 6 weeks later I am still in the hospital waiting for skins issues to heal. Be careful with all medications please!

Zosyn for Abscess Within the Abdomen

I had a liver abscess due to gallbladder removal surgery and I'm still on this medicine. The taste is bitter and I get pimples, hives, and itchiness all over my body. But overall, this is a good medicine for my disease.

Zosyn for Abscess Within the Abdomen

I received this medication intravenously for a possible peritoneal infection following colon surgery for cancer. The peritoneal infection cleared, but I now have no taste and have lost my appetite completely. I also developed diarrhea and a superficial yeast infection.

Zosyn for Diabetic Foot Infection

I had a really severe foot infection that was starting to spread to the bone. I was on this medication intravenously for about ten weeks, but it didn't do much during the infection. surgery ended up being the best solution. Afterward, though, this medication seemed to work well. The only side effect I experienced was complete loss of taste, which made meals really unenjoyable for several weeks. Thankfully, my sense of taste came back after I finished taking the medication!

Zosyn for Pneumonia caused by Bacteria

I developed a very bad case of pancreatitis as a result of a severe gallstone attack, and they immediately started me on Zosyn in the ER. They kept me on the antibiotic for a couple of days and the pancreatitis cleared up nicely, allowing them to do the gallbladder removal surgery. The medicine had no side effects for me -- I didn't even know it was going into my IV. It worked for me with no complications, so I was pleased with it.

Zosyn for Inflammation and Infection of the Abdomen Lining

I was admitted to the hospital due to an unknown skin infection. I stayed for four days, but had to return within eight hours due to swelling. I spent a total of three more days in the hospital before being released with oral medication. So far, the only side effect I've experienced is thrush.

Next Day Clinic for Patient Care

All Sexes
Los Angeles, CA

The Next Day Clinic (NDC) is a quality improvement initiative that will be launched and operated by UCLA Health starting July 22, 2024. Its goals are to improve patient care and safety and to maximize cost effectiveness. The way it does this is by identifying patients in the ED who would normally be admitted for low-acuity conditions, and diverting them to a high-acuity clinic the following day called the NDC. This will help decompress the ED and the hospital, and allow for overall higher quality care. The Health System has partnered with UCLA's Healthcare Value Analytics and Solutions \[UVAS\] group which specializes in these types of program evaluations. The analysis conducted by the study team will be used to directly inform NDC operations, scaling, and future plans.

Standardized Oral Care for Premature Infant Health

12 - 72
All Sexes
Gainesville, FL

Premature very low birth weight (VLBW) infants are susceptible to complications related to infrequent and non-standardized oral care. Although the benefits of frequent standardized oral care are known to reduce oral dybiosis (increased level of potentially pathogenic bacteria) and its associated complications in critically ill adults leading to established evidence-based guidelines, no such information exists for VLBW infants. The proposed study will prospectively follow 40 VLBW infants for 4 weeks following birth. Infants will be randomized into 1 of 2 groups. Standardized oral care will be performed every 3-4 hours (Group 1) and every 12 hours (Group 2). Aim 1 will evaluate the feasibility of frequent standardized oral care, Aim 2 will compare the oral microbiome between groups, and Aim 3 will compare respiratory outcomes including the incidence of ventilator associated pneumonia, bronchopulmonary dysplasia and need for respiratory support between infants receiving standardized oral care every 3-4 hours and every 12 hours. Issues related to recruitment, retention, randomization, acceptance by nursing staff, and treatment fidelity will be examined. Saliva samples will be obtained weekly and analyzed using 16S sequencing, respiratory cultures will be obtained weekly on ventilated infants, and respiratory outcomes will be collected from the medical records.
