How Ventolin Hfa works in the bodySalbutamol works by relaxing the muscles around the airways, allowing the airways to open up and making it easier to breathe. It mainly works on beta2-adrenergic receptors, which are found in the lungs and heart. When these receptors are activated, a chemical called cyclic AMP increases, which relaxes the muscles and lowers the amount of calcium in the cells. This leads to relaxation of the airway muscles and better airflow. Salbutamol also stops cells in the airway from releasing substances that can cause airway constriction. The effects of salbutamol usually start within 5-15 minutes

Ventolin Hfa Toxicity & Overdose RiskTaking too much albuterol can cause side effects such as seizures, chest pain, high or low blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, shaking, headache, dry mouth, nausea, fatigue, feeling unwell, difficulty sleeping, high blood sugar, low potassium, and acid build-up in the body. It is not known if albuterol passes into breast milk, so pregnant and nursing mothers should talk with their doctor about the risks. Albuterol has not been tested in children under 4 years of age.
