Treatment Summary
Phentermine is an anti-obesity medication that was introduced in 1959. It is related to amphetamine but does not have the same addictive potential, so it is classified as a Schedule IV drug with low abuse potential. It is usually prescribed for short-term weight management and was approved by the FDA in 1959. In 2012, phentermine was also approved to be used in combination with another drug, topiramate, at lower doses to achieve the same effect.

Effectiveness
How Phentermine Hydrochloride Affects Patients
Phentermine is used to suppress appetite, which may be caused by the increase of the hormone leptin. It has been found to help people lose an average of 3.6 kilograms over a period of 2-24 weeks. In addition, the effects of phentermine continue even after the treatment is stopped. It is not known to have any effects on the central nervous system, blood pressure, or heart rate like amphetamine drugs.
How Phentermine Hydrochloride works in the body
Phentermine works by increasing the amount of noradrenaline in a certain area of the brain. This increases the activity of certain receptors and creates a "flight-or-fight" response, which reduces hunger signals. It may also reduce the production of a hormone called neuropeptide Y, which is linked to hunger. Phentermine also weakly inhibits monoamine oxidase, but this doesn't have a significant effect.
When to interrupt dosage
The suggested portion of Phentermine Hydrochloride is contingent upon the diagnosed condition, including Regime of weight reduction, Hyperlipidemia and Type 2 Diabetes. The amount of dosage is contingent upon the delivery approach (e.g. Oral or Tablet) featured in the table below.

Patient Q&A Section about phentermine hydrochloride
These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.
Is phentermine HCL the same as phentermine?
"Phentermine acts as a stimulant on the central nervous system, reducing appetite, and is commonly used as a weight loss medication. Hydrochloride is a common salt form of phentermine, which increases its solubility, making it easier to absorb into the bloodstream."
Answered by AI
Does Phentermine Hydrochloride give you energy?
"Phentermine may help people to eat less by lowering their appetite. This can lead to weight loss because it causes an energy deficit (meaning you are burning more calories than you are eating)."
Answered by AI
How much weight can you lose on phentermine?
"Phentermine is most effective for weight loss when taken for 3 months, leading to an average weight loss of 3% of initial body weight. Some people report even more significant weight loss, with up to 5-7% weight loss after 6 months of taking phentermine."
Answered by AI
What is Phentermine Hydrochloride used for?
"Phentermine is a medication used to speed up weight loss in overweight people. It is only meant to be used for a limited amount of time, and should be combined with diet and exercise. Phentermine works by reducing appetite."
