After treatment, hormone levels will decrease to prepubertal levels. Laboratory tests may be recommended to monitor hormone levels in patients. Side effects may include psychiatric events, convulsions, pseudotumor cerebri, spinal cord compression, urinary tract obstruction, and an increased risk of hyperglycemia/diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
How Supprelin La works in the bodyHistrelin is a hormone drug that helps regulate sexual maturity and reproduction. When administered as an implant, it works by initially activating the hormones that produce sex steroids in the body. Then, over time, it reduces the hormone levels and desensitizes the hormones in the pituitary gland. This makes it effective for treating central precocious puberty in children, as it lowers their height potential. Supprelin La Toxicity & Overdose RiskAnimal studies have shown that taking up to 200mcg/kg (rats and rabbits) or 2000mcg/kg (mice) of histrelin acetate is safe and does not cause systemic toxicity. This amount is much higher than the recommended human dose of 10mcg/kg/day. Clinical trials of histrelin products have not reported any overdose cases. Histrelin products are usually administered using implants that release a constant dose, so accidental or intentional overdose is unlikely.
