How Patanase Affects Patients
Olopatadine is a medication used to treat allergy symptoms like itching, redness, swelling, and tearing of the eyes. It works by blocking the effects of histamine, a molecule responsible for triggering allergies. Pre-clinical studies and human trials have shown that olopatadine works quickly and can last for up to 24 hours. While it is generally a non-sedating medication, some people may experience drowsiness after taking it. It also has negligible effects on other types of receptors in the body and does not seem to affect the QT interval.
How Patanase works in the body
Histamine is a natural chemical that causes inflammation when it binds to its receptors. Histamine activates a series of reactions in the cells that release cytokines and other inflammatory mediators, resulting in allergy symptoms. Olopatadine is a drug that stops histamine from binding to its receptor and triggering inflammation. It also blocks the signals sent out by the receptor, preventing the release of cytokines and other mediators. Olopatadine also stops cells from sticking together, which reduces inflammation. In addition, it stops cells involved in inflammation from becoming activated.
