It works by stopping ovulation, fertilization, and implantation. This type of contraceptive is 89% effective when used according to the instructions. Intrauterine and implantable devices that release levonorgestrel are 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. Additionally, levonorgestrel used in hormone therapy can help reduce the risk of endometrial cancer caused by taking estrogen without other hormones.
How Lybrel works in the bodyLevonorgestrel works in several ways to prevent pregnancy. 5/3/2011 I've been on Lybrel for four years now and have had few problems. My period stopped the first month, and I haven't experienced any spotting since. It's wonderful not having to worry about my period or dealing with all the associated issues. 6/8/2012 I switched to Lybrel from Natazia five months ago in an attempt to stop my periods altogether, as per my doctor's orders. Unfortunately, I'm still menstruating regularly. Additionally, I've started having menstrual migraines again and the cramps are worse than ever. This pill doesn't seem to be working for me and I may have to switch brands again.
