Effectiveness
How Lamictal Xr Affects PatientsLamotrigine is thought to help prevent seizures and mood problems by stabilizing cell membranes and stopping the release of certain brain chemicals. It has been reported that a metabolite of lamotrigine, 2-N-methyl metabolite, can lead to changes in the heart rhythm when taken in large doses. This metabolite is only found in small amounts in humans, but can be more present in people with liver disease.
How Lamictal Xr works in the bodyLamotrigine works by blocking certain sodium channels, which helps stabilize and regulate the release of certain neurotransmitters in the brain. This is thought to be how lamotrigine helps reduce seizures, bipolar disorder, and other conditions. Lamotrigine also binds to different receptors in the body, including serotonin, dopamine, and GABA receptors, which may also contribute to its therapeutic effects. It also has an effect on calcium channels, which could help explain its anticonvulsant action.

Lamictal Xr Reviews: What are patients saying about Lamictal Xr?
5Patient Review
9/20/2011 I have complex partial seizures and I take 400 mg Lamictal XR 2x a day and 100 topamax at bed. I had some problems when I started taking it, but that's not unusual for me whenever I start a new medication. It's worked well for my seizures though.
5Patient Review
11/9/2013 This medication has completely stopped my seizures and rage. I only have to take it once a day, but I do have to take it at night because it makes me drowsy.
5Patient Review
7/19/2015 I can't speak highly enough of this medicine- it really did the trick for me.
4.3Patient Review
3/4/2011 I've been struggling with headaches, teeth grinding, and excessive blinking (which causes joint and jaw pain). I'm also having issues with my memory, which seems to be getting worse every day. Today, I actually forgot how old I was.
4Patient Review
12/29/2010 I was diagnosed with partial seizures and put on this medication. At first, I thought it was working; however, after about a month and a half, I developed a horrible rash that covered my body. I don't think the benefits are worth the side effects.
