Kovanaze Toxicity & Overdose RiskCommon side effects of the combination cream include redness (47%), skin discoloration (16%), and swelling (14%). Less common side effects (occurring in less than 1% of patients) include vomiting, headache, dizziness, and fever. The cream may also cause central nervous system stimulation or depression. It is not known at what level of concentration systemic toxicity occurs with tetracaine, but it is thought to be much lower than with lidocaine, which is 1000 ng/mL.
