Effectiveness

How Jadenu Affects Patients

Deferasirox is a pill that binds to iron in the body. It is highly effective at grabbing onto iron, and also has some effect on zinc and copper. However, it is unclear if these decreases in trace metals have any important effects on the body.

How Jadenu works in the body

Deferasirox is effective at treating iron toxicity. It works by binding to iron atoms and forming a stable complex. This complex is then removed from the body via the kidneys.

When to interrupt dosage

The portion of Jadenu is contingent upon the perceived affliction, including Iron Overload, Blood Transfusions and Non-transfusion Dependent Thalassemia. The measure of dosage additionally differs as indicated by the method of administration (e.g. Granule or Tablet, film coated) featured in the table underneath.

Jadenu for excess iron due to repeated blood transfusions

I've been taking this drug for over a year now and it has helped me immensely. There have been a few times when my Ferritin level has increased, but it always goes back down eventually.

Jadenu for Too Much Iron in the Blood for a Long Period of Time

I was prescribed Jadenu in order to lower my ferritin level, which had been gradually increasing. The medication did successfully achieve this, however I had to stop taking it because of severe gut issues and extreme fatigue/muscle weakness caused by skyrocketing liver functions. Now that I've been taken off the drug, I'm not sure what my next treatment option will be, as the anemia prevents me from being phlebotomized.

Jadenu for excess iron in person with non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia (NTDT)

My daughter takes this for her Hemaglobin H Disease/Thalassemia disorder. Her Iron stores were through the roof and, since starting this medication, she is now iron deficient and her bilirubin level is now high. The pills are quite large and she can not swallow them, so we have to crush them. Unfortunately, they have a bitter taste that she doesn't enjoy.

Jadenu for Too Much Iron in the Blood for a Long Period of Time

I unfortunately had to discontinue use after just ten days due to developing an extreme rash all over my body. My iron levels did decrease while taking the medication, however.
