What is Heather
NorethisteroneThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryNorethisterone, also called norethindrone, is a type of medication used to treat menstrual irregularities, endometriosis, and as a contraceptive. It is a synthetic hormone that mimics the action of the natural hormone progesterone, but is more potent. Effectiveness
How Heather Affects PatientsNorethisterone is a type of pill taken by mouth that is used for birth control or to treat other hormone-related conditions such as menopause and endometriosis. It is a very powerful version of the hormone progesterone, and works by changing the way cervical and uterine cells function, and blocking hormones that control ovulation. Taking norethisterone or other types of combined oral contraceptives may increase the risk of breast cancer, so it is important to be aware of this risk and regularly do breast self-exams to look for signs of any developing lumps.
How Heather works in the bodyNorethisterone is a progestin that works in many different parts of the body to help prevent pregnancy. It thickens the mucus in the cervix, making it harder for sperm to swim through. It also makes the endometrium inhospitable to implantation. It suppresses hormones like follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), which stops ovulation and prevents the development of a corpus luteum. For menopausal women, norethisterone is used to protect against endometrial hyperplasia which can lead to endometrial cancer.
When to interrupt dosage
The proposed dosage of Heather is determined by the identified affliction, including Atrophic, Fracture and Hormone Replacement Therapy. The measure of dosage is contingent upon the administration technique (e.g. Oral or Tablet) noted in the table beneath.Condition

Heather Reviews: What are patients saying about Heather?
5Patient Review
10/14/2020 I began taking this when I turned 35 because at the time, I was a smoker. I stopped getting my periods and it is absolutely wonderful! I haven't had a period for 2 years now!
4.7Patient Review
11/3/2015 I've been on this medication for approximately five months and, during that time, my hair has become noticeably thinner. Has anyone else experienced this side effect?
4.3Patient Review
8/19/2022 I've been using this pill for around 10 months now and it's been fantastic. I can't speak for everyone, but I personally haven't experienced any negative side effects. The only thing is that I cry more easily, but that could just be because of my hormones in general. I use the pill to regulate my periods so I'm not sure about its effectiveness in regards to contraception, but it does seem to work well in preventing my period from coming too often.
3.3Patient Review
3/15/2016 I've been on this pill for a while now, but I'm starting to experience some negative side effects like back acne, bloating, and fatigue. I'm going to talk to my gynecologist about whether or not it's worth continuing with this medication.
3Patient Review
12/30/2016 I get nauseous and headaches every day at the same time, even though I take this medication with food. If I don't also take ibuprofen and Pepcid, the next day is really bad.
