Effectiveness

How Epiduo Affects PatientsBenzoyl peroxide is a medication used to treat acne. It works by producing free radicals that break down comedones and speed up the process of skin cell replacement. The effects of benzoyl peroxide are short-lived, as the active free radical molecules quickly become inactive. It is generally considered a safe medication, however overdoses are possible and can lead to skin irritation, dryness, and sunburn. Patients should be warned about these potential side effects.
How Epiduo works in the bodyAcne is caused by inflammation in the skin, an increase of hormones, too much keratin, bacteria and oil. Benzoyl peroxide works to fight acne by breaking down oil, killing bacteria and removing dead skin cells. It does this by creating free radicals that interact with bacterial proteins and stop them from growing, and also cause skin peeling to get rid of comedones.

Epiduo for Acne
It's tough, but give this stuff at least three months. I can attest that it really is a miracle, as my face suddenly cleared up and is now almost perfect. If you're struggling with dryness, use a moisturizer and then some Aquaphor—it was a life-saver for me!

Epiduo for Acne
I had really bad acne for a while, but this treatment helped me immensely. It's worth sticking with it, even though it can be tough. Just don't overdo it and you'll be fine.

Epiduo for Acne
I was really struggling with acne and eczema, but this treatment helped a lot. It took a few weeks for my skin to get used to it, but now my face is clear! The only downside is that it can make your skin sensitive, so be careful if you use it around your eyebrows or lips.

Epiduo for Acne
I was prescribed this medication around May/June and have been using it for about 6-8 months. It definitely works but whether or not you use it depends if you can take the side effects. Dry skin, INTENSE PEELING, stinging! These side affects ultimately subside but if you stop using for about a week (as I recently did due to running out of the cream) your face will resume its break outs. Consistently applying this product works the best along with a great moisturizer.

Epiduo for Acne
I used this treatment for six months, and experienced a very difficult three-month "purge" before seeing any more manageable results. However, soon after stopping the medication my acne returned. I got back on the epiduo, and seven and a half months later (after another long and hard purge) my skin is no better than it was when I started.

Epiduo for Acne
Unfortunately, my daughter's experience with this medication was quite negative. Her face became very dry and red, to the point where it was painful and burning. The acne got marginally better, but not enough to justify continuing use of the drug.

This stuff burns so bad that I had to stop using it. Horrible results and not worth the pain, in my opinion.

Patient Q&A Section about epiduo

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

What does Epiduo do to your face?

"The medication is used to treat acne by being a combination of adapalene (a retinoid) and benzoyl peroxide (an antibiotic and skin-peeling agent). This will hopefully decrease the number and severity of acne pimples as well as promoting quick healing of pimples that do appear."

Answered by AI

Is Epiduo the same as Accutane?

"Accutane and Epiduo are used to treat and prevent severe acne. Accutane is a retinoid, which is a form of vitamin A. Epiduo is a combination of a retinoid and an antibacterial medication, and also has a mild drying effect."

Answered by AI

Is Epiduo good for acne?

"Benzoyl Peroxide is an effective treatment for non-inflamed whiteheads and blackheads, as well as inflamed pimples. Furthermore, it has been shown to reduce scarring from acne. Epiduo is not the only medication that contains adapalene or benzoyl peroxide."

Answered by AI

How long does it take for Epiduo to clear acne?

"Between 21.5% to 47.2% of people who used Epiduo saw their acne improve, with some clearing up completely."

PF-07905428 for Acne

18 - 40
All Sexes
Montreal, Canada
The purpose of this clinical trial is to learn about the safety and effects of the study medicine (called PF-07905428) for the potential treatment of acne vulgaris. This study is seeking participants who: * Are male or female between the ages of 18 and 40 * Are generally healthy * Are diagnosed with moderate to severe acne vulgaris (Cohort 4 only) The study medicine will be applied every day on the participant's face and/or back for 14 days (Cohorts 1 and 2) or for 28 days (Cohort 3 and 4). The investigators will compare the experiences of people receiving the study medicine to those of the people who do not. This will help the investigators determine if the study medicine is safe and effective. Participants will take part in this study for approximately 2 months. During this time, they will have 17 study visits (Cohorts 1 and 2) or 31 study visits (Cohorts 3 and 4) at the study clinic. The study team will also call participants once at the end of the study over the phone.

Isotretinoin vs Tetracycline for Acne

Any Age
All Sexes
Charleston, SC
In the effort to find better treatments for Moderate Acne, which often relies on long-term antibiotic use, researchers are exploring alternative options. While Isotretinoin, a Vitamin A derivative, is highly effective for severe acne, its side effects limit its use for milder cases. A recent study from our institution investigated a new approach: weekly Isotretinoin dosing. The results were promising, with acne improvement and no major side effects. This suggests that weekly Isotretinoin could be a successful alternative for moderate acne in both males and females. To validate these findings, investigators propose a randomized controlled trial comparing weekly Isotretinoin to daily Doxycycline over four months. This study could confirm the safety and effectiveness of weekly Isotretinoin, as well as shed light on patient satisfaction, and long-term results compared to standard antibiotics. This research may offer a breakthrough in treating moderate acne while addressing concerns about antibiotic overuse.

Clascoterone Cream for Acne

Any Age
All Sexes
Stanford, CA
Mechanism-based acne treatment for transgender patients receiving testosterone currently does not exist and is an unmet medical need. This study explores clascoterone to treat testosterone induced acne. Many treatments we use to treat acne in females cannot be used in transgender males because they interfere with hormone therapy. Androgens have been associated with the development of acne vulgaris. Recently, a topical androgen receptor inhibitor cream (clascoterone) has been FDA-approved for the treatment of acne. However, clinical trials of clascoterone have excluded participants on exogenous hormones. Clascoterone has been hypothesized to be effective in the treatment of acne in transgender male participants on masculinizing hormone therapy, but it has never been studied or reported in the literature.
