How E.E.S. Affects PatientsErythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It works by blocking proteins and translation, stopping the growth of bacteria. However, it is important to test bacteria to make sure they are susceptible to erythromycin before administering it, as some bacteria may be resistant. Combined with sulfonamides, erythromycin has been found to be effective against many strains of Haemophilus influenzae. While it is generally safe, some people may experience pseudomembranous colitis, a mild to life-threatening diarrhea, or liver problems such as cholestatic
How E.E.S. works in the bodyErythromycin is an antibiotic that works by stopping bacteria from making proteins. It binds to a molecule in the ribosomes of bacterial cells, which are necessary for protein synthesis. By preventing the ribosomes from working, erythromycin is able to stop the bacteria from making proteins, thus controlling bacterial infections. Macrolides like erythromycin have a strong affinity for bacterial ribosomes, which is why they are effective against a wide range of bacteria.

E.E.S. Toxicity & Overdose RiskThe lethal dose of erythromycin in rats is 9272 mg/kg. Overdosing on erythromycin may cause diarrhea, nausea, stomach cramps, and vomiting, and the drug should be discontinued if an overdose occurs. To help treat the overdose, unabsorbed erythromycin should be quickly eliminated, and supportive measures should be taken. Unfortunately, erythromycin cannot be removed from the bloodstream by dialysis.
