The Generic name of this drug
Treatment Summary
Doxycycline is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It is a second-generation tetracycline and is generally less toxic than the first-generation tetracyclines. The type of bacteria and the results of antibiotic susceptibility testing will determine if doxycycline can be used to treat a particular infection.

Effectiveness
How Doryx Affects Patients
Doxycycline is a type of medication that stops bacteria from growing. It is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Doxycycline is able to penetrate the cell membrane and target molecules, helping it to fight off bacteria, parasites, and inflammation. It has been used to treat a variety of skin conditions such as bullous dermatoses and rosacea.
How Doryx works in the body
Doxycycline works to stop bacteria from making proteins. It does this by blocking the connection between an amino acid and the ribosome, a structure that helps create proteins. As a result, bacteria are unable to make the proteins necessary to survive and function. Doxycycline also works to reduce inflammation by preventing calcium-dependent microtubular assembly and blocking the production of nitric oxide, a molecule that can cause inflammation.
When to interrupt dosage
The advocated dose of Doryx is contingent upon the diagnosed disorder, including Urethritis, Chlamydia trachomatis and Respiratory Tract Infections. The measure of dosage is dependent upon the mechanism of delivery (e.g. Capsule or Syrup - Oral) as stated in the table beneath.
