How Desvenlafaxine Succinate Affects Patients
Desvenlafaxine is a drug that works on certain chemicals in the brain (serotonin and norepinephrine) to help with depression. It does not interact with most other drugs, and its dose does not need to be adjusted much. It does not affect the activity of certain receptors, ion channels, or an enzyme called MAO. It also has no effect on the hERG potassium channel, which is important to the heart. Compared to other SNRIs, desvenlafaxine is easier to take as it does not have to be adjusted much and rarely interacts with other drugs.
How Desvenlafaxine Succinate works in the body
Desvenlafaxine works by blocking the reuptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine in the brain. It does this more effectively for serotonin than norepinephrine, and least effectively for dopamine. It doesn't interact with any other receptors or enzymes in the body.

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.
Is desvenlafaxine used for anxiety?
"Although Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) is not officially approved to treat anxiety by the FDA, it is commonly used as an unapproved medication to manage generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and panic attacks."
Answered by AI
Is desvenlafaxine a strong antidepressant?
"The drug Desvenlafaxine does not work via a unique mechanism; rather, it is the active ingredient of the drug Venlafaxine. It has been created in the form of a tablet meant to be taken over a long period of time. There is no evidence that this drug is more effective than any other antidepressant, or that it has any other advantages over Venlafaxine."
Answered by AI
Does desvenlafaxine succinate make you gain weight?
"The average weight gain for people taking Pristiq in a long-term study was less than 2.2 pounds, which is the same result seen in people taking a placebo during the study. The review found that less than 1% of people taking Pristiq during clinical studies had a significant change in their weight."
Answered by AI
