Octyl salicylate is usually combined with other UV filters to provide maximum protection. It is considered to be generally safe, and it absorbs UV light in the range of 295-315 nanometers, with a peak absorption at 307-310 nanometers. Octyl salicylate is made up of salicylic acid and 2-ethylhexanol, with the salicylic acid portion absorbing UV light and the ethylhexanol
