Treatment SummaryOctyl salicylate is an oil-soluble chemical found in some sunscreens. It helps to protect skin from UVB radiation. It does not protect against UVA radiation. Octyl salicylate is usually combined with other UV filters to provide maximum protection. It is considered to be generally safe, and it absorbs UV light in the range of 295-315 nanometers, with a peak absorption at 307-310 nanometers. Octyl salicylate is made up of salicylic acid and 2-ethylhexanol, with the salicylic acid portion absorbing UV light and the ethylhexanol
