How Oravig Affects PatientsMiconazole is a medicine used to treat fungal infections. It works by blocking a certain enzyme that helps the fungus grow. When applied directly to the skin, it is not absorbed into the body and usually does not cause any side effects. However, people who use miconazole for intravaginal use should not use tampons or rely on contraceptives to prevent pregnancy or infection.
How Oravig works in the bodyMiconazole works in several ways to fight fungal infections. It blocks an enzyme that helps create the cell membrane of fungi, making it harder for them to survive. It also makes it harder for fungi to produce energy and survive in the body. Miconazole also causes fungi to produce a molecule called farnesol, which inhibits their ability to form biofilms, which are resistant to antibiotics. Lastly, farnesol stops fungi from pumping out drugs, making them more susceptible to miconazole.

9/15/2011 This treatment was really bad for me. I had terrible dry mouth and started seeing hair in front of my eyes. I was so tired and exhausted all the time. I quit immediately and threw the bottle away. There has to be some other drug that will kill thrush. Fluconozole hasn't touched it after 6 rounds. :(
