What is Cefdinir

CefdinirThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryCefdinir, also known as Omnicef, is an antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections in the ear, sinus, throat, lungs, and skin. It was approved by the FDA in 1997 and works by blocking the production of beta-lactamase enzymes which can make some bacteria resistant to first-line cephalosporin therapy. Cefdinir is a broad-spectrum antibiotic and is generally very effective and well-tolerated.

Effectiveness

How Cefdinir Affects PatientsCefdinir is a drug used to treat bacterial infections by stopping the bacteria from creating new cell walls. It has a broad range of effectiveness against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and is even strong enough to fight against bacteria with beta-lactamase enzymes, which can make them resistant to other cephalosporins.
How Cefdinir works in the bodyCefdinir is an antibiotic with a stronger ability to kill bacteria than penicillin. It works by stopping the bacteria from building their cell walls, which eventually leads to their death. Cefdinir does this by binding to proteins in the bacteria's cell wall and blocking their ability to build the wall. It also has the added benefit of being able to resist enzymes that some bacteria produce to protect themselves from antibiotics. Cefdinir has been shown to target certain proteins in bacteria, but it is unclear how this contributes to its effectiveness.

When to interrupt dosage

The proposed dose of Cefdinir is hinged on the determined sickness, including Communicable Diseases, Bronchitis and Haemophilus parainfluenzae. The measure of dosage is contingent upon the management methodology (e.g. Capsule or Capsule - Oral) delineated in the accompanying table.

Patient Q&A Section about cefdinir

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

Is cefdinir the same thing as amoxicillin?

"Amoxicillin is available as a generic and as the brand-name drugs Amoxil and Moxatag.

Cefdinir and amoxicillin are used to treat bacterial infections. Cefdinir is a cephalosporin antibiotic, while amoxicillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic. Cefdinir is available only as a generic, while amoxicillin is available as a generic and under the brand names Amoxil and Moxatag."

Answered by AI

Is cefdinir strong antibiotic?

"Does cefdinir treat a lot of different types of bacteria? Cefdinir is an "extended spectrum" antibiotic, which means that it works against a good number of bacteria. There are other antibiotics that can treat more types of infections, or more serious infections."

Answered by AI

Is cefdinir stronger than amoxicillin?

"Although some clinical trials in the United States and Europe have found that cefdinir is just as effective as amoxicillin/clavulanate when treating bacterial sinusitis, cefdinir was shown to be more effective after 10 days of treatment."

Answered by AI

What is cefdinir used to treat?

"Cefdinir is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It belongs to the class of cephalosporin antibiotics and works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth. However, this medicine will not work for colds, flu, or other virus infections."
