Effectiveness

How Ancobon Affects Patients

Flucytosine is a medicine that works against certain types of fungus. It enters the fungal cells and is changed into a substance called 5-fluorouracil. This substance stops the fungal cells from making DNA and RNA, which causes them to die. Flucytosine also works better when combined with certain other antifungal drugs, like amphotericin B.

How Ancobon works in the body

Flucytosine works by preventing fungi from taking in important molecules they need to survive. It also changes the molecules inside the fungi so they can't create DNA or RNA. Ultimately, this leads to the fungi dying off.
