How Tavist Affects Patients

Clemastine is an antihistamine which also has anticholinergic and sedative effects. It works by blocking the effects of histamine, a substance produced by the body when it reacts to an allergen. Depending on the dose, this drug can have stimulating or calming effects on the central nervous system. It also causes dry mouth and other anticholinergic effects. Clemastine does not stop the body from producing histamine, but instead blocks its effects from occurring.

How Tavist works in the body

Clemastine blocks the effects of histamine, a molecule in your body that causes symptoms of allergies. By blocking the histamine, Clemastine helps relieve those symptoms.
