The Generic name of this drug

Treatment Summary

Sildenafil is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension. It works by blocking the enzyme that breaks down cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). This allows the cGMP present in the penis and lungs to cause smooth muscle relaxation and widen blood vessels, allowing increased flow of blood to the penis and relief of symptoms in pulmonary arterial hypertension. Sildenafil was originally developed as a treatment for chest pain (angina) but was found to be effective for erectile dysfunction. It is available with a prescription and some countries sell it over-the-counter

How Revatio Affects Patients

Sildenafil is a drug that specifically targets the enzyme phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5). In clinical studies, sildenafil has been found to help improve erectile dysfunction when taken 60 minutes before sexual activity. It is also known to lower systemic blood pressure, but usually only slightly, and usually does not cause any clinical effects. When taken in single doses up to 100 mg, sildenafil has been found to have no effect on the electrocardiogram, and may cause mild, temporary changes in color discrimination. In patients with early age-related macular degeneration,

How Revatio works in the body

Sildenafil helps with erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the penis. It does this by blocking the action of an enzyme that breaks down a compound that increases blood flow in the penis. When sexual stimulation is present, this process is activated, allowing sildenafil to increase blood flow. In addition, it also increases blood flow in the lungs of patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension.

When to interrupt dosage

The advised dosage of Revatio is dictated by the established condition, such as Premature Ejaculation, Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension and NYHA Functional Class II-III Pulmonary arterial hypertension. The dose relies on the method of delivery (e.g. Tablet or Oral) specified in the table underneath.

Revatio for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

I began seeing improvement in my ability to exercise very soon after starting this treatment back in 2007. Now, I'm able to work out for 60 to 90 minutes six days a week with no issues whatsoever. Additionally, there have been zero negative side effects that I've experienced and my blood pressure is completely normal.

Revatio for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

I've been using this treatment for three years, and before that I was taking Viagra. I'm 59 years old with congestive heart failure. I couldn't even walk outside to feed my birds before taking this medication, but it has improved my life dramatically. I take nine pills a day; however, the price they charge must go down. Luckily, medical pays for mine or else I wouldn't be able to afford these drugs; they pay $3,100 for me per month.

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

Can sildenafil 20 mg be used for erectile dysfunction?

"Sildenafil is a drug used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension and erectile dysfunction. It comes in a 20 mg dose."

Answered by AI

How do you take Revatio for erectile dysfunction?

"Use REVATIO 5 mg or 20 mg 3 times a day, 4 to 6 hours apart. Higher doses will not work better and are not recommended."

Answered by AI

What is Revatio used to treat?

"In some people, this can cause heart failure.

REVATIO is a prescription medicine used in adults to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a condition in which the blood pressure in the lungs is too high. This can put strain on the heart and, in some cases, can lead to heart failure."

Answered by AI

Is Revatio the same as Viagra?

"Both Viagra and Revatio contain sildenafil, but Viagra is for erectile dysfunction and Revatio is for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). They have different strengths and dosages."

Exparel/Bupivacaine Mixture for Postoperative Pain in Erectile Dysfunction Surgery

The inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) is the gold standard for surgical management of erectile dysfunction (ED) and there is no consensus on the best postoperative pain management regimen. In the wake of the opioid epidemic, postoperative pain management is heavily scrutinized. The National Institute of Health estimated over 81,000 individuals died following overdose of any opioids in 2022 alone; of these, over 14,000 deaths were linked to prescription opioids. Thus, strategies to minimize postoperative pain should not only improve patient experience but also lessen the need to escalate to opioid usage.

The goal of this clinical trial is to determine whether sotatercept is effective in improving diffusing capacity in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension. Participants will be asked to: * Take Sotatercept every 21 days (±3 days) * Each participant will be enrolled in the study for 29 Weeks * Visit the clinic 18 times * Have a physical exam * Perform assessments of lung function and exercise tests * Have an ultrasound of their heart * Have blood draws done at regular intervals The main objectives of the study are: Primary objective: To assess whether sotatercept will improve recruitment of diffusing membrane capacity (DM) with exercise. Secondary objective: To identify components of the diffusing capacity that respond to treatment with sotatercept in pulmonary arterial hypertension.

SAFE Technique for Erectile Dysfunction

18+
Male
New York, NY

Robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RALP) has become the standard of care in the management of localized prostate cancer. However, post-prostatectomy erectile dysfunction (ED) and urinary incontinence still pose a challenge that adversely affects the patient's quality of life. Hydrodissection (HD) was introduced in 1987 in the medical field and it was tested for the first time during a retropubic radical prostatectomy back in 2005. Since then, research has indicated an improvement in erectile function results, presumably because of a less traumatic neural dissection and a decreased risk of neuropraxia. In an effort to achieve a balance between oncological excision and functional preservation, prostate surgery is evolving to incorporate intraoperative real-time evaluation of extracapsular extension. Recently, a micro-ultrasound operating at 29 MHz has been introduced. It provides a resolution down to 70 μ to assess the glandular pattern and cellular density of the prostatic tissue. Given the experience in more than a thousand cases with this technology, and the growing literature showing promising results in the detection and staging of prostate cancer; the researchers decided to implement this tool as guidance for hydrodissection of the layers of the lateral prostatic fascia. Robotic-Assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy and SAFE (Saline assisted fascial engorgement) nerve preservation guided by Microultrasound (MUS) is a prospective randomized controlled trial designed to evaluate the impact of normal saline solution hydrodissection (HD) on erectile function outcomes after RALP. This innovative approach consists of a transrectal ultrasound-guided HD using a high-resolution Microultrasound (MUS) (ExactVu micro-ultrasound, Exact Imaging, Markham, Canada). The technique will be applied to those patients who undergo grade 1, 2, or 3 NS approach taking into account the grading system proposed by Tewari et al. The hypothesis is that the SAFE technique could minimize the risk of a traumatic neurovascular bundle dissection while assessing the prostatic capsule integrity with a high-resolution MUS. The researchers also hypothesize that the use of SAFE along with RALP will optimize the post-surgery recovery of erectile function.
