How Qutenza Affects PatientsCapsaicin is an ingredient that activates the TRPV1 receptor. This receptor is usually triggered by hot temperatures, low pH levels, and certain natural lipids. When activated, it opens up and lets in calcium and sodium ions, which sends signals to the brain and spinal cord. This causes feeling of warmth, tingling, itching, stinging, or burning. Capsaicin also keeps the receptors activated for longer than normal, meaning they don't respond to other normal stimuli. How Qutenza works in the bodyCapsaicin works to reduce pain by reducing the amount of inflammation-causing substances in the body. Qutenza Toxicity & Overdose RiskAcute toxicity in mice is 47.2 mg/kg when ingested, and over 512 mg/kg when applied to the skin. Capsaicin can cause serious eye, skin, and respiratory irritation, as well as lung inflammation, coughing, and difficulty breathing. Ingestion may lead to irritation of the gastrointestinal tract, disorientation, impaired motor control, hyperventilation, and a rapid heartbeat. If exposed to capsaicin, affected individuals should be removed from the source of exposure and decontaminated by washing the skin and mucous membranes with plenty of water; medical attention should be sought for any life-threatening symptoms

3/15/2022 I had shingles 12 years ago and, last year, the pain reappeared with a vengeance in the form of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). I tried Qutenza in hopes that it would provide some longer-lasting relief, but it only lasted for one day before the pain came back even worse. I'm currently trying out some other methods to see if I can get my pain under control.

5/2/2022 I experienced no relief whatsoever from nerve pain after using this patch, which was applied by a doctor in a clinic setting. I expected it to get very hot, but it didn't even warm up. After an hour, they removed the patch and there was no improvement. This whole process cost me almost $400 (with insurance) and it wasn't worth the time or money.

4/4/2022 I'm not sure if this treatment did anything at all. I didn't experience any burning pain, and saw no results. The doctor gave me a list of things to do in case the treatment didn't work, but I never had to use them because I felt nothing ever.
