Ciprofloxacin is a type of antibiotic that is used to treat many different kinds of bacterial infections. It works by stopping the bacteria from being able to reproduce and spread, and has a strong effect on bacteria that other antibiotics can no longer fight. It has also been studied for its potential to treat malaria, cancer, and AIDS.
How Proquin Xr works in the body
Ciprofloxacin works by targeting the molecules that help bacterial DNA replicate. It stops these molecules from supercoiling the DNA, which stops the bacteria from being able to make new copies of itself.

Overdosing on Ciprofloxacin can cause nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, kidney stones, and reduced urine output. It can also lead to kidney failure and may require prednisone, dialysis, or supportive treatments. Depending on the severity of the overdose, normal kidney function may be recovered or the patient may develop chronic kidney failure. The lowest toxic dose in rats is over 2000mg/kg.
