How Probenecid And Colchicine Affects Patients
Colchicine helps to reduce the pain of gout and can help to prevent flare-ups of Familial Mediterranean fever. However, people must be careful with this drug because the dose needs to be precise in order for it to be effective.
How Probenecid And Colchicine works in the body
Colchicine is thought to reduce inflammation by interfering with pathways that cause inflammation, like neutrophil adhesion and the RhoA/ROCK pathway. On a molecular level, colchicine works by blocking the activity of cells in the metaphase part of the cell cycle. It does this by binding to tubulin, forming complexes that bind to microtubules, preventing them from growing or depolymerizing them.
When to interrupt dosage
The portion of Probenecid And Colchicine is contingent upon the determined condition, such as Gout Flares, Pericarditis and Postcommissurotomy Syndrome. The measure of dosage also relies on the method of delivery featured in the table beneath.

Probenecid And Colchicine Toxicity & Overdose Risk
Colchicine is toxic if taken in large amounts. The lethal dose in mice is 5.87 mg/kg. Signs of an overdose can appear within 24 hours, such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and low blood cells. After 24 to 72 hours, more serious complications may occur, such as organ failure and respiratory depression, which can lead to death. If someone has overdosed on colchicine, stomach pumping and supportive treatment should be given and there is no antidote. Make sure to keep colchicine out of reach of children. Dialysis does not remove colchicine from the blood

Patient Q&A Section about probenecid and colchicine
These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.
Are probenecid and colchicine the same thing?
"Probenecid is a uricosuric drug, meaning it helps remove uric acid from the body by increasing the rate at which the kidneys remove it. This decreases the amount of uric acid in the blood. Colchicine works by decreasing swelling and reducing the build-up of uric acid crystals that cause pain in the affected joint or joints."
Answered by AI
Can you take probenecid and colchicine together?
"The combination of probenecid and colchicine does not cure gout, it only helps to prevent attacks as long as the patient continues to take the medication. A prescription from a doctor is required to obtain this medication."
Answered by AI
What is colchicine probenecid used for?
"This medicine is a combination of probenecid and colchicine and is used to treat gout or gouty arthritis. The probenecid component helps to prevent gout attacks by removing excess uric acid from the body, while the colchicine also helps to prevent gout attacks."
