What is Nexium

EsomeprazoleThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryEsomeprazole (brand name Nexium) is a type of medication called a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). This drug is used to reduce the amount of stomach acid in people with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and other conditions caused by high levels of stomach acid. It is also used in combination with antibiotics to treat H. pylori infections. Esomeprazole works by binding to an enzyme in the stomach which helps to slow down the production of acid. It is usually safe and effective, however long-term use may be associated with some side effects

Effectiveness

How Nexium Affects PatientsEsomeprazole reduces the amount of acid that is produced in the stomach. It is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heal erosive esophagitis, and remove the bacterial infection H. pylori to prevent duodenal ulcers from forming. It works by blocking an enzyme (H+/K+ ATPase) that produces stomach acid. Esomeprazole is similar to other proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and has been linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular events, bacterial infections, reduced absorption of micronutrients, and low levels of
How Nexium works in the bodyEsomeprazole works to reduce stomach acid production by attaching itself to the proteins that create acid in the stomach. This binding is permanent and prevents the body from creating more acid, providing a long-lasting acid-suppressing effect.

Nexium for Ulcer of Duodenum caused by Bacteria Helicobacter Pylori
I've been taking this since it came out and it's really worked well for me. My doctor recommended I switch to something stronger than Zantac, and this has done the trick. I am a little concerned about the long-term effects of blocking stomach acid, but so far so good.

Nexium for Condition in which Stomach Acid is Pushed Into the Esophagus
I've been using Nexium for over 15 years. I started with the 40mg dosage but when the price went up, I switched to the 20mg OTC version. I take it every morning and have never experienced any side effects. It's been working great for me all this time and I don't see any reason to stop taking it now.

Nexium for Inflammation of the Stomach Lining caused by H. Pylori
I am epileptic and I take phenytoin primidone and zonisamide. Recently, my chest started hurting from inflammation of my stomach. I went to the ER to make sure it wasnâ??t my heart, but everything came back fine. The doctor prescribed me nexium 40mg for about a week; however, I have been having anxiety, headaches, dizziness, and blurred vision about an hour after taking the medication. I just called the doctor and am waiting to hear back on what I should do next.

Nexium for Excessive Production of Stomach Acid
I took this medication for a month in an effort to reduce the amount of stomach acid I was producing. Unfortunately, after only two weeks I started experiencing intense pain in my intestines and by the third week my breasts had grown painfully large. Not sure if these side effects are common, but they're definitely not worth it in my opinion.

Nexium for Condition in which Stomach Acid is Pushed Into the Esophagus
I started taking Nexium for GERD 4 months ago. It did control my GERD, but I experienced some pretty significant side effects, like hair loss, elevated blood pressure and sinus congestion. When I stopped taking it for a week, the GERD came back full force. Now I'm trying to taper off of it, but wish I had never started in the first place.

Nexium for Condition in which Stomach Acid is Pushed Into the Esophagus

I had an incredibly severe allergic reaction the first time I took this medicine. Please, avoid this medication if you can. I have three young kids at home and nearly put my life at risk.

Do not take this drug. I developed osteoporosis after years of taking it. Acid is important for calcium production, so instead I take a glass of water before bedtime and that has worked just fine.
