Though there have been no studies done on pregnant women, the Collaborative Perinatal Project found that taking guaifenesin during the first trimester might increase the risk of hernias in babies, but not other birth defects. Guaifenesin can also be passed to a baby through breast milk, so caution should be used. The LD50 of guaifenesin is 1510mg/kg in rats.

9/14/2022 On its own, this medication was tolerable for me. I had some mild side effects like diarrhea and fatigue, but nothing unmanageable. However, when I combined it with Advil Cold & Sinus, I experienced severe vomiting and diarrhea, as well as intense cramps. Therefore, I would not recommend taking this medication with other cold and sinus medications.

10/4/2022 The side effects of this medication far outweighed the positives for me. I felt nauseous and dizzy shortly after taking it, and then woke up in the middle of the night with severe diarrhea. I took another dose before realizing that it was the medicine causing these issues, and ended up with cramps so bad that I thought my stomach might explode. Once the medicine was out of my system, though, everything went back to normal.

10/11/2022 My husband took this medication before going to bed over the weekend. In the early hours of morning, he woke up to use the restroom and collapsed. He hit his head hard enough that he put a hole in the wall. When he was finally evaluated at the hospital, it was determined that this medication had caused him to black out and fall. If he would have fallen just slightly differently, he could have died from blunt force trauma to the head.

5/27/2022 I took Mucinex 9 hours ago and my stomach has been in horrible knots ever since. I've vomited twice already, but the only relief I’ve had is the immediate moments after I vomit, where the pain would subside for 10-15 minutes before coming back just as strong. This is easily the worst meds I’ve ever taken in my life. Never again.

8/28/2022 I took the first dose after breakfast, and then another around lunchtime. I felt very dizzy afterwards and my heart was racing. I also had tremors, which wasn't a pleasant feeling. I won't be taking this medication anymore or recommending it to others.
