Effectiveness

How Lamisil At Affects PatientsTerbinafine is an antifungal medication used to treat fungal infections. It works by stopping the growth of the fungal cells, which leads to the death of the fungus. It stays in the body for a long time, so it is effective over a long period of time. Taking too much of this drug is rare, so it is considered to be a very safe medication. Before taking terbinafine, patients should have tests done to make sure their liver is healthy to reduce the risk of any liver injury.
How Lamisil At works in the bodyTerbinafine blocks an enzyme called squalene monooxygenase. This enzyme helps create a molecule called ergosterol, which is important for making cell walls. When terbinafine prevents the creation of ergosterol, it causes too much squalene to build up in the cell. This weakens the cell wall and causes vesicles to form, further weakening it.

Lamisil At for Fungal Infection of Toenails
I've now taken Lamisil twice, both times after getting a fungus from a pedicure. The first time it took four months of treatment, and even then the fungus started growing back once I stopped taking the medication. My doctor prescribed me one more month this time around, and told me to take it every other day. So far so good!

Lamisil At for Fungal Infection of Toenails
I've had to take Lamisil twice in the last ten years, both times as a result of getting fungus from a pedicure. The first time it took four months of prescription medication to get rid of it. This most recent time, I am on my third month and it appears to be working beautifully! Neither time have I experienced any side effects, which is great.

Lamisil At for Ringworm of Groin Area
I took this medication 15 years ago for a toenail fungus and it worked great. Unfortunately, the fungus returned on my toenail and I started taking it again 2 months ago. I haven't seen any noticeable changes yet, but I know it takes some time. There are no side effects that I'm aware of. It is clearing up some scaly athlete's foot issue on the bottoms of my feet. Not being able to have a few beers while taking the meds for 3 months isn't fun...
