Effectiveness

How Hytrin Affects Patients

Terazosin is a type of medication that blocks a certain type of hormone (alpha-1) that helps regulate blood pressure.

How Hytrin works in the body

Terazosin targets alpha-1-adrenoceptors, relaxing the smooth muscles in blood vessels and the prostate. This helps lower blood pressure and improves urinary flow. It also stimulates the caspase cascade, leading to apoptosis of prostate cells. This helps to reduce the size of the prostate and ease pressure on the urethra. Finally, it inhibits mitogenesis, preventing the growth of cancerous cells.

When to interrupt dosage

The measure of Hytrin is subject to the diagnosed condition, including Ureteral Calculus, Hypertensive disease and Enlarged Prostate. The quantity fluctuates as per the administration mode (e.g. Capsule, liquid filled or Capsule - Oral) indicated in the table below.

Hytrin Toxicity & Overdose Risk

An overdose of terazosin may lead to low blood pressure; this can be treated by having the patient lay down, or through the use of fluids or drugs to increase blood pressure. It is important to monitor kidney function, as terazosin is highly protein-bound and dialysis will not help remove the drug from the body. The lowest toxic dose of terazosin in mice has been found to be 5500mg/kg.

Hytrin for Enlarged Prostate

I've been taking 1mg of Hytrin for several months now at bedtime and it has worked well for me. I get a very restful sleep, dream more often, and feel like my mood and energy levels have increased. However, I have begun experiencing pain and tingling in my hands (which may or may not be caused by the Hytrin), as well as increased hair loss (again, possibly unrelated).

Hytrin for Enlarged Prostate

I've been taking this medication for over five years now to treat my BPH, and it's been great. I haven't experienced any negative side effects, and it's even helped lower my blood pressure into the normal range. If I miss a dose, though, I have real difficulty urinating.

Hytrin for Enlarged Prostate

I've found this treatment helpful, but I still experience some pains in my lower back after sitting or standing for a while. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Hytrin for Enlarged Prostate

I carefully monitor my blood pressure and dosage. I take about 4mg at night and 4mg in the morning. This is good medicine for three reasons: it helps me sleep at night, aids with urination, and lowers blood pressure a little bit.

Hytrin for High Blood Pressure

This medication makes me so tired that I have to find a seat soon. Additionally, it killed my sex drive and caused my penis to shrink. However, it did bring my blood pressure down to normal levels.

I had to stop using this drug because it caused severe and chronic nasal congestion. This made it impossible for me to use my CPAP machine at night, which I need for my sleep apnea.

Hytrin for High Blood Pressure

I'm 81 years old and have been using Hytrin for over two years. It's helped me a lot; I used to wake up three times per night, but now it's only once. I take it an hour before bed so that any dizziness is gone by morning. Additionally, I haven't had any problems with erections or ejaculation.

Hytrin for Enlarged Prostate

After taking this medication for four months, I have noticed some improvement in my urinary symptoms (frequency and urgency) as well as a drop in my blood pressure. There were some side effects when I first started taking the drug (dizziness), but these went away after a few days.

Hytrin for High Blood Pressure

I've been taking this medication for a while now, but the positive effects it had on my urinary output have decreased significantly after only a few weeks. That said, it does still help in other ways; my blood pressure is lower and I haven't experienced any negative side effects that I know of.

Hytrin for High Blood Pressure

After taking this medication, my urination became normal again. I stopped taking it when I started Avodart, but then my urinary frequency increased to the point where I was going all day and night. It's a wonder why the doctor forgot to tell me to stay on the Hytrin with the Avodart.

Miami, FL

This study aims to validate the accuracy and reliability of blood pressure (BP) estimates obtained over 24 hours using a PPG-based chest-patch device compared to the gold standard ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) method using an upper arm cuff-based oscillometric BP device, in both hypertensive and normotensive individuals referred by their provider to undergo a 24-hours ABPM for clinical indication. The Awake/Asleep test, which is the primary test recommended for automated wearable cuffless BP devices that are cuff-calibrated (based on the 2023 European Society of Hypertension (ESH) recommendations for the validation of cuffless blood pressure measuring devices), will be conducted in this study. The secondary aim of the study is to assess the feasibility and convenience of the PPG-based device.

Optilume vs Rezum for Enlarged Prostate

18+
Male
Montréal, Canada

Lower urinary symptoms (LUTS) affect older men and their frequency and severity increase with age. According to Berry et al., the histological diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) increases from 25% in the group age between 40 to 49 years to 80% in the group age between 70 to 79 years (1). However, this hyperplasia can lead to a bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) secondary to benign prostatic enlargement (BPE), causing storage and voiding symptoms, associated with a considerable impairment of the quality of life (2). Surgical therapy of BPH has continuously evolved in recent years. The current gold standard for the endoscopic treatment of BPH is the transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). Other innovative techniques were developed including Urolift, transurethral laser enucleation (holmium, thulium) and Aquablation therapy. One of the latest technologies for the management of BPH are Optilume BPH Catheter System (Optilume®, Urotronic Inc, Minneapolis, USA) and Rezum Water Vapor Therapy (Rezum System, Bostocn Scientific, Marlborough, MA). The purpose of the present study is to compare between patient experience, symptom relief and functional improvement when using the Optilume BPH Catheter System (Optilume®, Urotronic Inc, Minneapolis, USA) and Rezum Water Vapor Therapy (Rezum System, Boston Scientific, Marlborough, MA).

This project is part of the ACHIEVE GREATER (Addressing Cardiometabolic Health In Populations Through Early PreVEntion in the GREAT LakEs Region) Center (IRB# 100221MP2A), the purpose of which is to improve cardiometabolic health in two uniquely comparable cities: Detroit, Michigan, and Cleveland, Ohio. The ACHIEVE GREATER Center involves separate but related projects that aim to improve cardiometabolic health outcomes through better risk factor control for three chronic conditions that are of tremendous public health importance, (hypertension (HTN), heart failure, and coronary heart disease), all of which contribute significantly to premature death in Detroit and Cleveland. The present study is the prospective observational cohort component of ACHIEVE P1- EPI (Project 1) of the ACHIEVE GREATER Center and serves to characterize the population of patients with blood pressure (BP) levels above normal attending The Wayne Health Mobile Health Unit (MHU) events to better understand key factors (e.g., social determinants of health) that convey information about baseline BP levels and related clinical outcomes (e.g., follow-up clinic visits, BP control, and cardiovascular events).
