How Gentak works in the bodyAminoglycosides work in two ways to kill bacteria. First, they bind to the cell membranes of bacteria, which weakens the membrane and allows the medicine to enter. Once inside, the medicine binds to the ribosome, which is responsible for making proteins. This causes the proteins to be made incorrectly, which weakens the cell membrane further and prevents the cell from reproducing. Finally, the medicine accumulates in the cell, causing it to die. Aminoglycosides are not effective against anaerobic bacteria since they require oxygen for transport.

Gentak Toxicity & Overdose RiskGentamicin has been linked to kidney and ear damage, with symptoms including increased creatinine and urea levels in the blood, balance issues, nausea, tinnitus, and hearing loss. Long-term use of gentamicin increases the risk of these toxicities and may lead to permanent ear damage. To reduce the risk of toxicity, patients should be closely monitored and the medication stopped immediately in cases of toxicity or overdose. Hemodialysis may also be used to lower gentamicin serum concentrations.

6/28/2011 Gentak was prescribed by my doctor to treat a stye. However, after just two days of use, both of my eyes had swollen shut. Additionally, the eyelids had developed horrible blisters. The medicine in the eye that didn't have the stye caused eye blisters and ulcers. Consequently, I would not recommend this medication to anyone.
