What is Estraderm

EstradiolThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryEstradiol is a hormone naturally found in female bodies. It is prescribed as hormone therapy to treat conditions related to low estrogen levels, such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness. It can be taken in many forms, like tablets, injections, patches, and creams. To increase its effectiveness when taken orally or by injection, estradiol is usually combined with an ester side-chain. Ethinyl estradiol (EE) is a synthetic form of estradiol that is commonly found in combination birth control pills. It is more effective than regular estradiol due to its higher bioavailability and resistance to metabolism.

Effectiveness

How Estraderm Affects PatientsEstradiol is used to help relieve hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and pain during sex. It can also make bones stronger by decreasing bone breakdown, and can improve the levels of certain lipids in the blood. It affects hormones in the body, including increasing the amount of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and thyroid-binding globulin (TBG). Estradiol may increase the risk of developing conditions like cardiovascular disease, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and stroke, so it should be avoided by people who are at higher risk. Taking estradiol can also cause an increase in blood
How Estraderm works in the bodyEstrogen is a hormone found in many parts of the body, including the brain, bone, fat, skin, and reproductive organs. In adult women, the main source of estrogen during reproductive years is the ovarian follicle. After menopause, however, most estrogen is made by transformation of androstenedione (made by the adrenal cortex) to estrone in other tissues. Estrone, though not as strong as estradiol, is found in higher concentrations in postmenopausal women and can lead to symptoms like hot flashes and sleep problems. Estradiol binds to two types of estrogen receptors (ERs):

Estraderm for Low Estrogen After Operation to Remove Ovaries
I've been on this medication for 40 years, and it's still working great!

Estraderm for Low Estrogen After Operation to Remove Ovaries
I have been a long term patient on this treatment and experienced additional benefits related to alleviation of cardiac symptoms, continued elasticity of skin, and skin tone. I have been told that the product is no longer available, and have yet to find another estrogen product that produces the same results. I would like to know how to acquire the product, or, is there an accessible replacement with the same composition?

Estraderm for Low Estrogen After Operation to Remove Ovaries
I really enjoy using this patch because I don't experience any negative side effects like migraines, which I've gotten from other patches. In my opinion, it's the best one on the market.

Estraderm for Low Estrogen After Operation to Remove Ovaries
I've been using this treatment for over thirty years and it's really helped me. I hope they don't stop making it, as it's the only one that's worked for me in terms of regulating my hormones after surgery.

Estraderm for Low Estrogen After Operation to Remove Ovaries
I had a total hysterectomy in 1978 at a young age. I started taking oral medication, but then switched to this product instead. It worked great for many years, but was then removed from the market. My alternative has been Vivelle, which is more expensive and doesn't work as well for me.

Estraderm for "Change of Life" Signs
I've tried a lot of different treatments for my condition, but this one is by far the best. It takes away all my symptoms and I'm really grateful to the company that makes it.

Estraderm for "Change of Life" Signs
My doctor put me on this medication during my transition from male to female. He told me it was safer than Prognova and easier to use, which has been true so far.

Estraderm for Primary Ovarian Failure
I've been using Estraderm for over two decades and I'm very upset that Novartis is discontinuing it. Vivelle Dot does not provide equivalent blood levels, from my experience.

Estraderm for Low Estrogen After Operation to Remove Ovaries
The patch does work, but it doesn't stay on for very long. I've been using patches for 15 years now and this is the first time I've had this problem.

Estraderm for Low Estrogen After Operation to Remove Ovaries
The patch falls off really easily and is too large. I don't like it at all and think it should be taken off the market.

Estraderm for Low Estrogen After Operation to Remove Ovaries
The patches are ineffective because they do not adhere to the skin. They fall off within a day, rendering them useless.

Estraderm for Wasting of Tissues of the Vulva
Unfortunately, the estrogen patch had a number of negative effects on my health. After just one application, I experienced severe tinnitus, itching scalp, central sleep apnea and difficulty going to the bathroom- to name a few. Be very careful before using this medication.
