This enzyme is not found in humans, so this drug is generally safe for humans to take. Sertaconazole has been shown to be effective against certain types of fungi, such as Cryptococcus neoformans and Candida spp. Studies have also shown that it can help treat systemic and intracranial fungal infections in both normal and immunocompromised animals.
How Ertaczo works in the bodySertaconazole stops a fungal enzyme from converting a molecule called lanosterol into another molecule called ergosterol. Ergosterol is important for the cell membrane of fungi, so stopping its production makes the cell walls more porous, allowing cellular contents to leak out. Sertaconazole may also impact the respiration of fungi, as well as its growth, metabolism, and ability to use certain molecules.
