How Entereg works in the body

Alvimopan connects to mu-opioid receptors in the digestive system. This connection is different from other drugs because it is based on its chemical makeup, not its electrical charge. Alvimopan binds to these receptors very strongly, with a Ki of 0.2 ng/mL.

Patient Q&A Section about entereg

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

Is entereg FDA approved?

"This document was approved on 05/20/2008."

Answered by AI

Does entereg cause diarrhea?

"If you have recently been exposed to opioids, you may be more sensitive to the effects of alvimopan. This could include abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, and diarrhea. Taking benzhydrocodone/acetaminophen at the same time as alvimopan can increase the effects of alvimopan by competing for receptor binding. Therefore, it is contraindicated."

Answered by AI

When do you hold entereg?

"The recommended adult dosage of ENTEREG is 12 mg administered 30 minutes to 5 hours prior to surgery. After surgery, the dosage is 12 mg twice daily for a maximum of 7 days."

Answered by AI

What is entereg used for?

"Alvimopan is a drug that helps the intestines recover after surgery. It is taken by mouth and works by blocking the effects of opioids. This prevents or reduces postoperative ileus, which is when the intestines do not work properly after surgery."
