Hydrochlorothiazide
The Generic name of this drug
Treatment Summary
Hydrochlorothiazide is a medication used to reduce swelling and high blood pressure. It is the most commonly prescribed drug in its class. However, it is being used less in favor of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors. Many combination products are available combining hydrochlorothiazide with ACE inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers. The drug was approved by the FDA in 1959.

Effectiveness
How Dutoprol Affects Patients
Hydrochlorothiazide helps the body get rid of extra water by preventing it from being reabsorbed in the kidneys. The amount of hydrochlorothiazide taken each day is customized, and typically ranges from 25-100mg. Those with reduced kidney or liver function should be careful when taking this drug.
How Dutoprol works in the body
Hydrochlorothiazide is taken into cells in the distal convoluted tubule of the kidney. From these cells, it is transported to the lumen of the tubule. Normally, sodium is reabsorbed into the cells and then pumped into the surrounding tissue. Hydrochlorothiazide prevents this from happening, reducing the amount of water reabsorbed by the cells and thus decreasing sodium levels in the body.
When to interrupt dosage
The amount of Dutoprol is contingent upon the diagnosed condition, including Antepartum magnesium sulfate prophylaxis, inadequately controlled blood pressure with monotherapy and antihypertensives. The dosage fluctuates as per the procedure of dispensation (e.g. Tablet, coated - Oral or Oral) presented in the table underneath.

Dutoprol Toxicity & Overdose Risk
The lowest toxic dose of hydrochlorothiazide in mice and rats is over 10g/kg. Symptoms of overdose can include low levels of potassium, chlorine, and sodium in the blood. Treatment involves providing fluids and electrolytes to the patient, as well as administering vasopressors to treat low blood pressure and oxygen if there is difficulty breathing.

This product contains two medications: metoprolol and hydrochlorothiazide. Metoprolol is a drug that belongs to a class of drugs known as beta blockers. This medication works by blocking the hormone epinephrine (adrenaline). When epinephrine is blocked, this reduces heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on the heart. Hydrochlorothiazide is a drug that belongs to a class of drugs known as diuretics ('water pills'). This medication works by causing the patient to make more urine.
