It can't kill any of the parasites' reproductive cells, but it can stop them from multiplying further. Taking it with sulfonamides can increase its effectiveness against Toxoplasma gondii.

I found the side effects of this treatment to be really tough to deal with. Nausea, moodiness, and irritability were my main problems. It's hard to say which one was caused by the medicine itself and which ones were just a reaction to having toxoplasmosis in general.

Daraprim for AIDS with Toxoplasmosis

The side effects of this treatment were so severe that I would have rather let the toxo kill me. Three doses and I was bedridden for two weeks, during which time I couldn't keep anything down. There are other, less intense treatments available that would have been a better choice.
