Effectiveness

How Cyclosporine Affects PatientsCyclosporine is a drug used to prevent organ and bone marrow transplants from being rejected, as well as to control serious immune reactions caused by autoimmune diseases. Common side effects include excessive hair growth, swollen gums, and high cholesterol levels. There is some controversy around the drug potentially damaging your kidneys.
How Cyclosporine works in the bodyCyclosporine is a medication that reduces inflammation. It does this by blocking a receptor in cells called cyclophilin-1. This stops the nuclear factor of activated T cells from being activated. This is important because NF-AT helps create cytokines which cause inflammation. Cyclosporine also stops the production of IL-2, which is necessary for the activation and growth of T cells. Finally, it decreases the levels of other factors related to T helper cell functioning and thymocyte development.

When to interrupt dosage

The prescribed amount of Cyclosporine is contingent upon the determined condition, including Interstitial Cystitis, Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and Excessive tearing. The dosage is dependent on the administration approach (e.g. Liquid - Intravenous or Ophthalmic; Topical) specified in the following table.

Cyclosporine Toxicity & Overdose RiskThe lowest toxic dose of cyclosporine in rats is 1480mg/kg and in humans is 12mg/kg. An overdose of cyclosporine may cause nausea, flushing, tremor, vertigo, vomiting, anorexia, and a feeling of increased body girth. If an overdose occurs, forced emesis and gastric lavage should be administered within two hours. Dialysis and charcoal hemoperfusion are not effective at removing cyclosporine from the body.

Cyclosporine for Severe Psoriasis that is Resistant to Treatment
I had severe psoriasis 95 percent of my body, and after just three months on this medication, most of it has cleared up. I'm now down to a smaller quantity. Side effects are minimal compared to the others who posted comments. Fatigue, some hair loss, higher blood pressure. I hope I can go off this soon.

Cyclosporine for Body's Rejection of a Transplanted Organ
I received this drug, alongside other medicines like steroids, for a cornea graft. Unfortunately, it didn't work; I had to get four different grafts in total. Additionally, I found that I frequently got sick while using this medication and that the nausea was especially bad.

Cyclosporine for Severe Psoriasis that is Resistant to Treatment
The smell is incredibly bad, but I can hold my breath to take it because the alternative is worse. After taking this treatment for two weeks, I have more blemishes and my acne has worsened. I also experience terrible stomach upset and difficulty sleeping; on top of all that, I've gained weight. There needs to be a better treatment option because the side effects of this one are just awful.

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

Is cyclosporine is a steroid?

"Cyclosporine is a safe steroid-sparing agent to use topically for prolonged periods of time,” Dr."

Answered by AI

What is the drug cyclosporine used for?

"It works by weakening the body's natural defense (immune system) so that the transplanted organ is not rejected.

Cyclosporine is used in combination with other medications to prevent the body from rejecting a transplanted organ. It is classified as an immunosuppressive agent and works by weakening the body's immune system so that the transplanted organ is not rejected."

Answered by AI

Which class of drug is cyclosporine?

"This class of medication is designed to weaken the immune system by reducing the activity within it. This can help to prevent the body from attacking transplanted organs, for example."

Answered by AI

What are the side effects of taking cyclosporine?

"High blood pressure, increased hair growth, swollen or inflamed gums, numbness or tingling of the hands or feet, and other common side effects like tremors, restlessness, stomach upset, nausea, cramps, diarrhea, headache, and changes in blood sugar."
