What is Clindamycin Phosphate

ClindamycinThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryClindamycin is an antibiotic used to treat serious infections caused by bacteria. It is also used to treat acne. Clindamycin is effective against anaerobic bacteria, gram-positive bacteria, and gram-negative bacteria. Additionally, it has some activity against protozoans and has been used to treat toxoplasmosis, malaria, and babesiosis. Clindamycin is derived from lincomycin, which was named after Lincoln, Nebraska, where it was first discovered.

Effectiveness

How Clindamycin Phosphate Affects PatientsClindamycin works by preventing bacteria from making proteins, so it can fight off certain bacterial infections. It needs to be taken every 6 hours to keep the right amount of antibiotic in your body. Clindamycin can cause diarrhea, which can be severe and even deadly, so it is usually only used for serious infections. Clindamycin works against many types of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, but some may develop resistance. It is important to check the local antimicrobial susceptibility patterns before using clindamycin to make sure it is effective against the bacteria causing your infection.
How Clindamycin Phosphate works in the bodyClindamycin works by interfering with bacterial protein production. It binds to a part of the bacterial ribosome and prevents it from forming correctly. This stops the bacteria from being able to produce proteins, which in turn kills them. For acne, it is believed that clindamycin works by stopping the growth of Propionibacterium acnes, a bacteria associated with acne.

When to interrupt dosage

The measure of Clindamycin Phosphate is subject to the identified state, for instance viridans group streptococci, Vaginal Infections and Surgical Intervention. The dosage changes in connection to the specified administration approach (e.g. Cream - Vaginal or Suspension - Topical) as seen in the table hereunder.

Clindamycin Phosphate Toxicity & Overdose RiskThe most toxic dose of clindamycin in mice and rats is 2540 mg/kg and 2190 mg/kg, respectively. Although there have been no reported cases of overdose, symptoms could include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In one case, a 3-year-old child was given a large dose of clindamycin and only had mild abdominal pain and diarrhea. In case of overdose, activated charcoal can be used to remove any unabsorbed drug, while hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are not effective. In general, supportive measures should be taken.

Clindamycin Phosphate for Acne
I had cystic acne which my doctor treated with this gel. It's been incredibly effective, and I'm so glad I went to her before things got worse.

Clindamycin Phosphate for Acne
I've had severe acne on my neck and scalp for 15 years. I was really self-conscious about it, especially after getting a haircut. This treatment cleared up my skin in just 7 days! I'm hopeful that I can keep the breakouts under control with benzoyl peroxide at the end of the treatment.

Clindamycin Phosphate for Acne
Different people will respond differently to this medication, as is the case with all drugs. I found that it worked well for me, clearing up my skin. If it doesn't work for you, then simply stop using it and move on. There's no need to dissuade others from trying it based on your own experience.

Clindamycin Phosphate for Acne
My doctor recommended this alongside Doxycycline Hyclate and Tretinoin for my acne. Within weeks, I had fewer pimples! Sometimes it does itch, but it's still worth it because it works so well.

Clindamycin Phosphate for Acne
I've been using this medication on and off for a few years now. I find that it's effective in keeping breakouts to a minimum and clearing existing spots within a couple days. However, it doesn't seem to do anything for scarring or blackheads.

Clindamycin Phosphate for Acne
I've only been using this gel for about a month, but I've already noticed a significant reduction in the amount and severity of my acne breakouts. It's light and doesn't irritate my skin, which is great. The only downside is that it hasn't done much for my scars or dark spots, but I'm also using benzoyl peroxide (which can be irritating, so I only use it once a week) and that has helped some with the scarring.

Clindamycin Phosphate for Acne
This spot treatment is very effective at drying out pimples, but it doesn't do much to prevent new breakouts.

Clindamycin Phosphate for Skin Infection due to a Bacteria
Overall, this did help my skin. However, the dermatitis comes back as soon as I stop using it. Additionally, I've been experiencing some really scary dizzy spells that have led me to believe this might be the culprit. I'm going to discontinue use and see if the symptoms go away.

Clindamycin Phosphate for Acne
This was an awful experience. I was prescribed this for acne and it made my entire chest, back, and neck red and covered in bumps and whiteheads. My skin is already oily but this made it 100x worse. After a week, I got prescribed an oral antibiotic and it finally started helping clear up my body after a few days but it took WEEKS for my skin to recover. Even now I am still trying to get rid of the scarring it caused.

Clindamycin Phosphate for Skin Infection due to a Bacteria
At first, I saw some improvement with the red patches around my mouth. However, after continued use for about two weeks, it's actually made the problem worse. Now my chin is swollen and there are little blisters that hurt. I'm going to stop using this and seek a doctor's opinion.

Clindamycin Phosphate for Acne
I would recommend benzoyl peroxide wash over this medication any day. I used this product for 60 days as directed, and saw my acne worsen dramatically. Additionally, I experienced a range of side effects that made this an overall miserable experience.
