IrbesartanThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryHydrochlorothiazide is a medication used to treat swelling and high blood pressure. It was the most commonly prescribed thiazide diuretic, but its use has been declining in favor of other treatments like angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors. It is often combined with other drugs like angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers to treat high blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide was approved by the FDA in 1959.

Effectiveness

How Avalide Affects PatientsHydrochlorothiazide helps the body get rid of water in the urine by blocking the absorption of sodium and water from the distal convoluted tubule. The dose of hydrochlorothiazide varies from person to person, but is typically between 25-100mg. People with kidney or liver problems need to be careful when taking this medication.
How Avalide works in the bodyHydrochlorothiazide is transported from your bloodstream into cells in your kidneys. It is then taken to the lumen of the tubule by a protein called MRP4. Normally, sodium is reabsorbed into these cells, but hydrochlorothiazide prevents that process. This reduces the concentration gradient between the cells and the tubule, which then reduces the reabsorption of water.

When to interrupt dosage

The measure of Avalide is contingent upon the recognized affliction, including Antepartum magnesium sulfate prophylaxis, blood pressure inadequately managed by monotherapy and antihypertensives. Avalide for High Blood Pressure
I had no negative side effects while using this treatment, which is really saying something considering I have a lot of allergies. Unfortunately, my insurance company stopped paying for it and I haven't been able to find anything that works as well without making me feel bad.
