Propranolol for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Objective: To use propranolol to treat established chronic post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) by reducing reconsolidation of the reactivated trauma memory. Hypothesis: A series of treatments with propranolol, in comparison to placebo, will produce a significant reduction in PTSD symptom severity in participants with chronic PTSD. Study Design: This is a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized study. Methodology: Twenty-five participants per group with chronic PTSD will be recruited. On their first visit psychodiagnostic and psychometric evaluation will take place. In addition, script-preparation for the script-driven imagery procedure will occur. Following this, the participants will return each week for a period of 6 weeks to participate in the reactivation sessions with propranolol or placebo (participants assigned to the propranolol condition will receive propranolol throughout, and participants assigned to the placebo condition will receive placebo throughout). Two weeks later, the participants will return for a follow-up of the psychodiagnostic and psychometric evaluation, as well as psychophysiological assessment using script-driven imagery procedure. Data Analysis: A two-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA) for repeated measures will be performed on study completers. The Drug factor will have two levels: propranolol and placebo. The Time factor will have two levels: pre-treatment and post-treatment. We predict a significant Drug x Time interaction, more precisely a greater decrease in PTSD severity in the propranolol than in the placebo group. The psychophysiological data will be contrasted to a normative cutoff score for PTSD.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need insurance to participate in a trial?
Almost all clinical trials will cover the cost of the 'trial drug' — so no insurance is required for this. For trials where this trial drug is given alongside an already-approved medication, there may be a cost (which your insurance would normally cover).
Is there any support for travel costs?
Many of the teams running clinical trials will cover the cost of transportation to-and-from their care center.
Will I know what medication I am taking?
This depends on the specific study. If you're worried about receiving a placebo, you can actively filter out these trials using our search.
How long do clinical trials last?
Some trials will only require a single visit, while others will continue until your disease returns. It's fairly common for a trial to last somewhere between 1 and 6 months.
Do you verify all the trials on your website?
All of the trials listed on Power have been formally registered with the US Food and Drug Administration. Beyond this, some trials on Power have been formally 'verified' if the team behind the trial has completed an additional level of verification with our team.
How quickly will I hear back from a clinical trial?
Sadly, this response time can take anywhere from 6 hours to 2 weeks. We're working hard to speed up how quickly you hear back — in general, verified trials respond to patients within a few days.

Introduction to post traumatic stress disorder

What are the top hospitals conducting post traumatic stress disorder research?

When it comes to advancing the understanding and treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), several hospitals are at the forefront of groundbreaking clinical trials. In Lexington, Kentucky, the University of Kentucky Clinic for Emotional Health (CEH) is making significant strides with three ongoing PTSD trials. Though relatively new to this area of research, CEH has already made an impact since recording its first trial in 2020. On the other side of the country, in San Francisco, California's San Francisco VA Medical Center is also actively contributing with three active PTSD trials and a history of conducting 15 studies on this condition since their inaugural trial in 2009.

Meanwhile, in Durham, North carolina's Durham VA Medical Center shares similar achievements by currently conducting three active PTSD trials while having completed 15 previous studies since their initial trial back in 2004. Additionally adding itself to this list is Philadelphia's Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center where two ongoing clinical tests focus on treating combat-related PTSD cases; they have been tirelessly working towards finding solutions ever since starting its pioneering investigations way back until 2009.

In Gainesville lies Sarkis Clinical Trials which may appear smaller-scale but does play a significant role as well, contributing through two current post-traumatic stress disorder clinical trials and holding commendable track record consisting only three previously held investigations from about ten years ago; tracing it back to just2012.

These hospitals represent beacons of hope for individuals grappling with post-traumatic stress disorder across the nation. The tireless efforts put forth by these institutions exemplify our collective commitment towards helping those who have experienced trauma find healing and resilience once more

Which are the best cities for post traumatic stress disorder clinical trials?

When it comes to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) clinical trials, several cities have emerged as leaders in research. Boston, Massachusetts, stands out with 7 active trials studying treatments like JZP150 and Occipital Nerve Block (ONB). San Diego, California, follows closely behind with 6 ongoing studies focused on interventions such as Prolonged Exposure Therapy. Durham, North carolina, and Austin and Dallas in Texas also contribute to the field of PTSD research with their respective active trials exploring various treatment options. These cities offer individuals struggling with PTSD opportunities to participate in cutting-edge clinical trials that may lead to improved care and outcomes.

Which are the top treatments for post traumatic stress disorder being explored in clinical trials?

Exciting progress is being made in the exploration of treatments for post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). One standout therapy currently under investigation is Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. With its focus on integrating mindfulness practices and cognitive behavioral techniques, this treatment shows promise in helping individuals with PTSD find relief from their symptoms. Currently, there are two active trials dedicated to studying the efficacy of this approach, while a total of four trials have been conducted since it was first listed as a potential treatment option in 2018. As researchers continue to delve into new avenues for managing PTSD, the hope for improved outcomes grows stronger.

What are the most recent clinical trials for post traumatic stress disorder?

Multiple clinical trials are currently underway to explore new treatments and approaches for individuals suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). One promising avenue is MDMA-assisted therapy, where the use of MDMA in conjunction with therapy has shown potential in addressing PTSD symptoms. Additionally, a study focusing on mismatch reactivation condition aims to identify effective interventions for PTSD by targeting memory processes. Another trial investigates the efficacy of brexanolone, while another explores intranasal insulin as potential treatment options. Lastly, an active drug is being tested through both Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials to evaluate its effectiveness in managing PTSD symptoms. These ongoing studies offer hope for improved therapies and better outcomes for those affected by this debilitating disorder

What post traumatic stress disorder clinical trials were recently completed?

Several recent clinical trials have made significant strides in the field of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), offering hope for improved treatments. Among these breakthroughs, Alto Neuroscience completed a trial investigating the ALTO-100 PO tablet in December 2021, while Bionomics Limited concluded their study on BNC210 in July 2021. Although Otsuka Pharmaceutical Development & Commercialization's Brexpiprazole trials were finished earlier, one as recently as October 2019 and another before that, they continue to contribute valuable insights into PTSD management. Additionally, NYU Langone Health explored the potential benefits of Cannabidiol and The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio investigated Quetiapine Fumarate—both studies reaching completion in September 2019 and February 2019 respectively.
