The dose escalation phase of this trial identifies the safety, side effects and best dose of ceralasertib (AZD6738) when given in combination with trastuzumab deruxtecan (DS-8201a) in treating patients with solid tumors that have a change (mutation) in the HER2 gene or protein and have spread to other places in the body (advanced). The dose expansion phase (phase Ib) of this trial compares how colorectal and gastroesophageal cancers with HER2 mutation respond to treatment with a combination of ceralasertib and trastuzumab deruxtecan versus trastuzumab deruxtecan alone. Ceralasertib may stop the growth of tumor cells and may kill them by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Trastuzumab deruxtecan is a monoclonal antibody, called trastuzumab, linked to a chemotherapy drug, called deruxtecan. Trastuzumab attaches to HER2 positive cancer cells in a targeted way and delivers deruxtecan to kill them. Ceralasertib and trastuzumab deruxtecan may be safe, tolerable and effective in treating patients with advanced solid tumors expressing the HER2 protein or gene.

This phase 1b trial studies the side effects and best dose of telaglenastat in combination with radiation therapy and temozolomide in treating patients with IDH-mutated diffuse or anaplastic astrocytoma. Telaglenastat may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Radiation therapy uses high energy x-rays to kill tumor cells and shrink tumors. Chemotherapy drugs, such as temozolomide, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving telaglenastat with radiation therapy and temozolomide may work better than surgery, radiation therapy, and temozolomide in treating patients with IDH-mutated diffuse astrocytoma or anaplastic astrocytoma.

Most pediatric patients with solid tumors respond to initial high-dose, intensive therapy and complete treatment in remission. High-risk patients however, frequently have recurrent disease which is then treated with ad hoc regimens or early phase therapies with little benefit to the patient. Metronomic therapy (MC), defined as lower dose continuous drug exposure, has been successfully tested in pediatric leukemias with excellent results in terms of improved outcome, toxicity profiles, and cost. MC has been applied to solid tumors with little success, but has been implemented usually in the relapsed setting at a time of high tumor burden and disease resistance.

Researchers are looking for new ways to prevent cancers related to human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a common virus that can cause an infection. There are many different types of HPV. Most people's immune system can fight HPV infection and it goes away without treatment. For some people, HPV infections can last longer and may cause cancer years later. A standard vaccine to prevent HPV-related cancers is GARDASIL®9 (G9). G9 protects against 9 types of HPV but it does not protect against other types of HPV. The study vaccine (called V540B) is designed to protect against the same HPV types that G9 protects against plus other HPV types. The main goal of this study is to learn about the safety of V540B in healthy adults and if people tolerate it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do clinical trials in Anaheim, CA pay?

Each trial will compensate patients a different amount, but $50-100 for each visit is a fairly common range for Phase 2–4 trials (Phase 1 trials often pay substantially more). Further, most trials will cover the costs of a travel to-and-from the clinic.

How do clinical trials in Anaheim, CA work?

After a researcher reviews your profile, they may choose to invite you in to a screening appointment, where they'll determine if you meet 100% of the eligibility requirements. If you do, you'll be sorted into one of the treatment groups, and receive your study drug. For some trials, there is a chance you'll receive a placebo. Across trials in Anaheim, CA 30% of clinical trials have a placebo. Typically, you'll be required to check-in with the clinic every month or so. The average trial length in Anaheim, CA is 12 months.

How do I participate in a study as a "healthy volunteer"?

Not all studies recruit healthy volunteers: usually, Phase 1 studies do. Participating as a healthy volunteer means you will go to a research facility in Anaheim, CA several times over a few days or weeks to receive a dose of either the test treatment or a "placebo," which is a harmless substance that helps researchers compare results. You will have routine tests during these visits, and you'll be compensated for your time and travel, with the number of appointments and details varying by study.

What does the "phase" of a clinical trial mean?

The phase of a trial reveals what stage the drug is in to get approval for a specific condition. Phase 1 trials are the trials to collect safety data in humans. Phase 2 trials are those where the drug has some data showing safety in humans, but where further human data is needed on drug effectiveness. Phase 3 trials are in the final step before approval. The drug already has data showing both safety and effectiveness. As a general rule, Phase 3 trials are more promising than Phase 2, and Phase 2 trials are more promising than phase 1.

Do I need to be insured to participate in a medical study in Anaheim, CA?

Clinical trials are almost always free to participants, and so do not require insurance. The only exception here are trials focused on cancer, because only a small part of the typical treatment plan is actually experimental. For these cancer trials, participants typically need insurance to cover all the non-experimental components.

What are the newest clinical trials in Anaheim, CA?

Most recently, we added BMS-986500 for Breast Cancer, Durvalumab + Tremelimumab for Stomach and Esophageal Cancer and Chemotherapy Decision Test for Gastroesophageal Cancer to the Power online platform.
