The main aim of this study is to understand how moderate and severe liver impairment (based on the Child-Pugh classification) affects the body's processing of a single dose of 10 mg maximum of palovarotene, compared to healthy participants with normal liver function. The study will also assess the safety and tolerability of the single dose of palovarotene. Participants will be enrolled in stages and divided into three groups based on their liver function: * Group 1: Healthy participants with normal liver function * Group 2: Participants with moderate liver impairment * Group 3: Participants with severe liver impairment (only enrolled if Group 2 results are safe and acceptable) Blood samples will be taken to assess how the drug binds to proteins in the blood. Participants will undergo various safety checks and procedures. Participants will stay in the clinical unit until Day 5 for these assessments and will return on Day 10 for a final visit.

Researchers are looking for new ways to prevent cancers related to human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a common virus that can cause an infection. There are many different types of HPV. Most people's immune system can fight HPV infection and it goes away without treatment. For some people, HPV infections can last longer and may cause cancer years later. A standard vaccine to prevent HPV-related cancers is GARDASIL®9 (G9). G9 protects against 9 types of HPV but it does not protect against other types of HPV. The study vaccine (called V540B) is designed to protect against the same HPV types that G9 protects against plus other HPV types. The main goal of this study is to learn about the safety of V540B in healthy adults and if people tolerate it.

In this PIERRE-PK study, researchers will learn how the body processes nusinersen when it is given through the ThecaFlex DRx™ System, compared to when nusinersen is given by lumbar puncture (LP). The ThecaFlex DRx system is an investigational implantable medical device developed by Alcyone Therapeutics, Inc. It consists of a catheter, which is a flexible tube, connected to a port which is placed under the skin. Alcyone Therapeutics, Inc. has an ongoing study called PIERRE to test the ThecaFlex DRx system. Participants with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) in the PIERRE study may be enrolled in the PIERRE-PK study. The main objective of the PIERRE-PK study is to learn how the body processes nusinersen when given by the ThecaFlex DRx system compared to a lumbar puncture. The main questions researchers want to answer are: * What is the highest amount of nusinersen found in the blood after dosing? * How much nusinersen is found in the blood over the first 24 hours after dosing? The PIERRE-PK study will be done as follows: * Participants will be screened to check if they can join the study. The screening period will be up to 30 days for this study and may overlap with the PIERRE study. * Participants will receive a dose of nusinersen by lumbar puncture. * The ThecaFlex DRx system will be implanted after the lumbar puncture, as part of the PIERRE study. * Participants will receive a dose of nusinersen by the ThecaFlex DRx system, as part of the PIERRE study. * Researchers will take blood samples before and after each dose. The last blood sample will be taken 24 hours after the dose. * The total study duration for each participant in the PIERRE-PK study will be approximately 5 months. This period will overlap with the participant's first 5 months in the PIERRE study.

Pancreatic cancer is difficult to diagnose early. By the time people have been diagnosed, the cancer has usually spread to other parts of the body (metastatic). The standard treatment is chemotherapy, but other treatments are needed to improve outcomes in people with pancreatic cancer. In this study, zolbetuximab will be given together with chemotherapy to people with pancreatic cancer. Zolbetuximab attaches to a protein called CLDN18.2 found at high levels on the surface of the cancer tumor. This switches on the immune system to attack the tumor. Adults 18 years or older with metastatic pancreatic cancer who have not previously had chemotherapy can take part in the study. There are 2 main aims of this study: * To check the safety of zolbetuximab, when given with chemotherapy in people with metastatic pancreatic cancer * To check if people could cope with (tolerate) any medical problems during the study This is an open-label study. This means people in the study and the study doctors will know that people will receive zolbetuximab with chemotherapy. Different small groups will receive lower to higher doses of zolbetuximab with chemotherapy. Zolbetuximab and chemotherapy will be given through a vein. This is called an infusion. People will receive zolbetuximab on the first day they receive chemotherapy. This will happen every 14 days in a 28-day cycle. People will receive zolbetuximab and chemotherapy in the study clinic and at home. Also, doctors will check for any medical problems. People will also have a health check including blood tests. On some visits they will also have scans to check for any changes in their cancer. People will visit the study clinic about 7 days after they stop treatment. They will be asked about any medical problems and will have a health check including blood tests. After this, people will have several more visits to the study clinic for health checks. The number of visits and checks done at each visit will depend on the health of each person and whether they complete their treatment or not.

Why Other Patients Applied

"I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer three months ago, metastatic to my liver, and I have been receiving and responding well to chemotherapy. My blood work revealed that my tumor markers have gone from 2600 in the beginning to 173 as of now, even with the delay in treatment, they are not going up. CT Scans reveal they have been shrinking as well. However, chemo is seriously deteriorating my body. I have 4 more treatments to go in this 12 treatment cycle. I am just interested in learning about my other options, if any are available to me."

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do clinical trials in Anaheim, CA pay?

Each trial will compensate patients a different amount, but $50-100 for each visit is a fairly common range for Phase 2–4 trials (Phase 1 trials often pay substantially more). Further, most trials will cover the costs of a travel to-and-from the clinic.

How do clinical trials in Anaheim, CA work?

After a researcher reviews your profile, they may choose to invite you in to a screening appointment, where they'll determine if you meet 100% of the eligibility requirements. If you do, you'll be sorted into one of the treatment groups, and receive your study drug. For some trials, there is a chance you'll receive a placebo. Across trials in Anaheim, CA 30% of clinical trials have a placebo. Typically, you'll be required to check-in with the clinic every month or so. The average trial length in Anaheim, CA is 12 months.

How do I participate in a study as a "healthy volunteer"?

Not all studies recruit healthy volunteers: usually, Phase 1 studies do. Participating as a healthy volunteer means you will go to a research facility in Anaheim, CA several times over a few days or weeks to receive a dose of either the test treatment or a "placebo," which is a harmless substance that helps researchers compare results. You will have routine tests during these visits, and you'll be compensated for your time and travel, with the number of appointments and details varying by study.

What does the "phase" of a clinical trial mean?

The phase of a trial reveals what stage the drug is in to get approval for a specific condition. Phase 1 trials are the trials to collect safety data in humans. Phase 2 trials are those where the drug has some data showing safety in humans, but where further human data is needed on drug effectiveness. Phase 3 trials are in the final step before approval. The drug already has data showing both safety and effectiveness. As a general rule, Phase 3 trials are more promising than Phase 2, and Phase 2 trials are more promising than phase 1.

Do I need to be insured to participate in a medical study in Anaheim, CA?

Clinical trials are almost always free to participants, and so do not require insurance. The only exception here are trials focused on cancer, because only a small part of the typical treatment plan is actually experimental. For these cancer trials, participants typically need insurance to cover all the non-experimental components.

What are the newest clinical trials in Anaheim, CA?

Most recently, we added Triapine + Radiation Therapy for Brain Cancer, BMS-986500 for Breast Cancer and Durvalumab + Tremelimumab for Stomach and Esophageal Cancer to the Power online platform.
