How Zantac 75 Affects PatientsRanitidine reduces the amount of acid in the stomach. It is usually used to treat conditions that cause too much acid production, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Taking ranitidine can improve the look of the esophagus as seen through an endoscope.

How Zantac 75 works in the bodyRanitidine helps reduce stomach acid production. It does this by blocking the action of a hormone called gastrin, which causes the stomach to release acid. Ranitidine binds to histamine H2 receptors, stopping the binding of histamine and preventing gastric acid secretion. This process can start providing relief in as quickly as an hour and the effects can last for up to 10 hours.

The proposed dosage of Zantac 75 relies upon the diagnosed disorder, including benign gastric ulcer healing, Erosive Esophagitis and Heartburn. The sum of dosage fluctuates, as per the technique of administration (e.g. Intramuscular; Intravenous or Capsule) shown in the table underneath.

Worked well for my GERD, but unfortunately caused me to have nightmares. These were not your typical bad dreams; they were HORRIBLE, violent, and almost every night for two weeks. Once I stopped taking the medication, the nightmares went away.

Zantac 75 for Heartburn

The Zantac helped at first, but then I developed hives all over my body which has persisted for several days now. My doctor prescribed me Prednisone, but after reading about the potential side effects, I'm hesitant to start taking it. Right now a combination of Zirtec and Sarna is helping to manage the symptoms, but I need to talk with my doctor and pharmacist before starting on Prednisone.
