What is Vienva

LevonorgestrelThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryLevonorgestrel (LNG) is a type of hormone used in contraceptive methods and hormone therapy. It is known by the brand name Plan B and is used in emergency contraception as a single dose and in long-term IUD contraceptives. Effectiveness

How Vienva Affects PatientsLevonorgestrel works to prevent pregnancy in three ways: by stopping ovulation, blocking fertilization, and preventing implantation. If taken within 72 hours of intercourse, it is 89% effective. If used as part of an intrauterine or implantable device, it is more than 99% effective. Additionally, it is used as part of hormonal therapy to reduce the risk of endometrial cancer associated with certain types of estrogen.
How Vienva works in the bodyLevonorgestrel works to prevent ovulation in several ways. It binds to progesterone and androgen receptors, which slows the release of a hormone that triggers ovulation. It also thickens the cervical mucus, making it difficult for sperm to pass through, and changes the endometrium, where a fertilized egg would normally implant. When taken over a long-term period, levonorgestrel can also be used as a hormone therapy to reduce the risk of endometrial cancer associated with taking unopposed estrogen therapy.

Vienva for Painful Periods
I am 47 years old and I have been taking vienva to stop my cycle from happening. I experienced some spotting during the first 3 months, but that has stopped. Weight gain is the only side effect for me.

Vienva for Birth Control
I took this birth control for several years. Over the years my alkaline phosphatase kept going up. A CT scan showed i had hepatic adenomas on my liver several large and multiple smaller ones. These were brought on by vienva birth control. I had taken birth control tell with no issues and OBGYN switched several years ago to Vienva which is when we noticed increase in alkaline.

Vienva for Painful Periods
I got this treatment to help with painful periods and as contraception, but it's been really terrible so far. I've had awful mood swings, no sex drive, constant headaches, and my acne has gotten worse. If you have a pre-existing mood disorder, I would not recommend this medication as it will likely make things worse.

Vienva for Endometriosis
I liked that this birth control didn't give me headaches or nausea, but it did give me severe acid reflux. Since the acid reflux started with the first pill and stopped once I went off, I can only attribute it to this pill.

Vienva for Painful Periods
I've been on many different birth control pills over the years, but Vienva is by far the worst. I only started taking it six days ago and have already experienced a whole host of terrible side effects, including huge pimples, cramping, nausea, and a drastic decline in mood. I'll be stopping these pills as soon as possible and getting an IUD instead.

I've been on Vienva for a year and I never felt any of the promised effects. In fact, my depression got worse while taking it.

Vienva for Birth Control
I would not recommend this birth control to anyone. I tried it for three months and experienced a lot of negative side effects like depression, headaches, mood swings, and weight gain. It was honestly the worst experience ever and almost ruined my life.

Vienva for Birth Control
I switched pharmacies and they gave me the generic brand of this medication without telling me. I noticed a difference in my mood and energy levels almost immediately after starting to take it, and not for the better. A month into taking it, I've also gained weight. I'm going back to my old pharmacy to get the original so that I can feel like myself again.

I do not recommend this treatment to anyone. It made me break out, feel seriously suicidal, and experience other negative side effects.
