Effectiveness

How Terbinafine Hydrochloride Affects PatientsTerbinafine is a medication used to treat fungal infections. It works by blocking an enzyme that helps create the cell wall of fungi, weakening the fungi and killing it. Terbinafine is known to remain in the body for a long period of time, meaning it has a long lasting effect. It is also considered to be safe to use, even in doses higher than recommended. Before taking terbinafine, it is recommended that patients get a liver function test to lower the risk of liver damage.
How Terbinafine Hydrochloride works in the bodyTerbinafine stops an enzyme in the body from converting squalene into a molecule called 2,3-oxydosqualene. This step is part of the process to make ergosterol, a compound that makes up the cell wall. With this enzyme blocked, there is less ergosterol in the cell wall, making it weaker. The drug also causes more squalene to build up in the cells, which may make the cell wall even weaker.

Terbinafine Hydrochloride for Fungal Disease of the Nails
I was really hesitant to use this medication because of the potential side effects. For 10 years, I tried everything to get rid of my toenail fungus but nothing worked. Finally, I decided to give Terbinafine a try and it's been three months with no negative side effects! My nails are starting to look normal again and I couldn't be happier.

Terbinafine Hydrochloride for Fungal Infection of Toenails
Terbinafine has been effective in treating my toenail fungus. However, it comes with a range of side effects that last the entire length of treatment, including fatigue, nausea, dizziness, and muscle aches. For me, it was worth it to clear up the infection; however, I understand that not everyone can tolerate the side effects.

Terbinafine Hydrochloride for Fungal Infection of Toenails
My wife took terbinafine for six weeks. At about that time she lost her ability to taste but smell was unaffected. Her doctor discontinued the med. After about 10 days taste suddenly came back. She is a great cook and was freaked out about not being able to taste her product.

Terbinafine Hydrochloride for Fungal Infection of Toenails
I tried terbinafine twice and, both times, got about halfway through the treatment before experiencing severe diarrhea and vomiting. So, I obviously had to stop taking it. That said, it did seem to work on half of my toenail fungus. Bottom line: use caution and be prepared to stop if you experience any adverse effects.

Terbinafine Hydrochloride for Fungal Infection of Toenails
The side effects of this medicine are really bad. I've only been taking it for less than three weeks and I already can't stand it anymore. I'm going to call my doctor and see if there are any other options.

Terbinafine Hydrochloride for Fungal Infection of Toenails
I had to stop taking this medication after only four days due to terrible stomach cramps, gas, and diarrhea. I would rather deal with toe fungus than go through that again.

Terbinafine Hydrochloride for Fungal Infection of Toenails
I began this treatment to address some toenail fungus. However, after only five weeks I started getting a really uncomfortable and itchy rash. This quickly spread despite using a steroid cream as recommended by my dermatologist. In the end, I had to discontinue use because it just wasn't worth the side effects.

Terbinafine Hydrochloride for Fungal Infection of Toenails
I took this medication for toenail fungus on three nails for one foot. Followed doctor's orders, took one pill a day for 30 days, & stayed away from alcohol. Had no side effects & was easy to take with a glass of water but condition never changed & fungus continued.

Terbinafine Hydrochloride for Fungal Infection of Fingernails - Onychomycosis
I strongly advise against this medication, especially for older demographics. After just three weeks of use, I started having diarrhea and headaches. Then, I quickly lost my sense of taste. Even after stopping the tablets, according to the drug's half-life, I can expect at least a month without taste—and that could be even longer for people my age.

Terbinafine Hydrochloride for Fungal Infection of Toenails
I developed a rash about three weeks into using this medication. By the end of the month, it had spread all over my body. Stopping the terbinafine immediately resulted in the clearing of the rash; it was gone within a month.

This medication was the worst. I had diarrhea, headaches, lower back pain and joint pain on my legs. The leg pain was unbearable and caused me a great deal of sleepless nights.
