How Terbinafine Hydrochloride works in the bodyTerbinafine stops an enzyme in the body from converting squalene into a molecule called 2,3-oxydosqualene. This step is part of the process to make ergosterol, a compound that makes up the cell wall. With this enzyme blocked, there is less ergosterol in the cell wall, making it weaker. The drug also causes more squalene to build up in the cells, which may make the cell wall even weaker.

Overdosing on terbinafine is rare, but can cause nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dizziness, rash, frequent urination, and headache. Treatment for an overdose should include activated charcoal and supportive care.
