What is Subsys

FentanylThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryFentanyl is a powerful opioid drug that was developed in the 1950s to provide strong and fast-acting pain relief. It is used to treat chronic cancer pain and as an anesthetic. Fentanyl is related to other opioids such as morphine and oxycodone, and it is often used as an adulterant in illegal drugs like heroin. In 2017, over 47,600 opioid overdose deaths were reported in the United States, and 11 Canadians die every day due to opioid overdoses. Fentanyl was approved by the FDA in 1968.

Effectiveness

How Subsys Affects PatientsFentanyl is a type of medication that reduces pain by targeting opioid receptors. It works for several hours, and patients may become tolerant of the effects over time. Taking Fentanyl carries a risk of addiction and abuse and it should not be taken with alcohol or benzodiazepines.
How Subsys works in the bodyFentanyl works by binding to opioid receptors on nerve cells. This triggers a reaction that changes G-proteins, which reduces the flow of calcium ions into the cell. This causes the cell to become more negatively charged, which stops it from sending signals.

When to interrupt dosage

The recommended measure of Subsys is contingent upon the diagnosed state, for instance Anesthesia, Conduction, Preanesthetic Medication and General Anesthesia. The extent of dosage is contingent upon the mode of delivery featured in the table beneath.

Subsys for Breakthrough Cancer Pain in Opioid-Tolerant Patient
I've been using this medication to manage my cancer pain, but lately I've noticed that a disturbingly high percentage of the doses have either had no effect or very little effect. I reached out to the company about this issue but haven't received any response.

Subsys for Breakthrough Cancer Pain in Opioid-Tolerant Patient
I've had a lot of problems with the packaging--empty containers or less medication than what's supposed to be there. I reported it to the company but they never called me back. I also reported it to my doctor's office and pharmacist, but it's been difficult to stay ahead of the pain.

Subsys for Breakthrough Cancer Pain in Opioid-Tolerant Patient
I am not satisfied with the delivery method of this med. I am finding 6-8 DUDS in each box, plus one fourth to one half the medicine in other containers. I have reported this to the Company and after four weeks, no changes have been made. Extremely frustrated.
