Effectiveness

How Propulsid Affects PatientsCisapride is a drug that helps improve the movement of food through the upper digestive tract. It works by activating serotonin 5-HT receptors, which in turn releases a chemical called acetylcholine that helps increase the tone and strength of stomach contractions and relaxes the muscles in the pyloric sphincter and duodenal bulb. Cisapride also helps to speed up the emptying of the stomach and transit of food through the intestines, and increases the tension of the lower esophageal sphincter. It does not affect the movement of food through the colon or gallbladder
How Propulsid works in the bodyCisapride helps move food through the digestive system by stimulating serotonin receptors in the enteric nervous system. This increases the tone and strength of stomach and intestinal contractions, as well as relaxing the pyloric sphincter and duodenal bulb, to help move food quickly through the digestive system.

Propulsid for Stomach Muscle Paralysis and Decreased Function
I was really bummed when this medication was taken off the market because it was the only one that helped my stomach problems. There are other medications with serious side effects that are still available, so I don't understand why this one was removed.

Propulsid for Condition in which Stomach Acid is Pushed Into the Esophagus
I don't understand why this medication was taken off the market; it worked really well for me. In fact, it was the only medicine for GERD that my doctor tried out on me that actually worked.

Propulsid for Stomach Muscle Paralysis and Decreased Function
I was so disappointed when this medicine was taken off the market. It was the only one that worked for my GERD and stomach problems. I haven't been able to find anything else that works as well since then.

Propulsid for Condition in which Stomach Acid is Pushed Into the Esophagus
My son was given this for GERD for almost four years, and it did not help him. In fact, once it was pulled from the market, my son (now thirteen) still had a touch of GERD. He was recently diagnosed with EE—an allergic inflammatory disease of his esophagus. I wonder if he would have been better off without this medication?
