Treatment SummaryClindamycin is an antibiotic that is used to treat serious infections caused by certain bacteria. It is also used to treat acne. Clindamycin is semi-synthetic and has a limited range of activity, which includes anaerobic bacteria, gram-positive cocci, bacilli, and gram-negative bacilli. It is also believed to have some activity against certain parasites and has been used off-label to treat toxoplasmosis, malaria, and babesiosis. Effectiveness
How Onexton Affects PatientsClindamycin works to stop the growth of bacteria by blocking protein production. It needs to be taken every six hours to keep the right amount in your system. Taking clindamycin can sometimes lead to a serious form of diarrhea called Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea (CDAD). This can happen even two months after you stop taking clindamycin. It is important to use clindamycin only when other antibiotics won't work, since it can cause serious problems. Clindamycin works on many types of bacteria, both gram-positive and gram-negative, but some bacteria can become resistant to it
How Onexton works in the bodyClindamycin works to stop bacteria from producing proteins, by blocking the ribosomes in bacteria. It does this by mimicking the shape of molecules used by the ribosome during protein creation. This prevents the ribosomes from creating proteins, which stops the bacteria from growing. It is thought that when used topically on acne, this mechanism may also be effective against the bacteria that causes acne.

The prescribed dosage of Onexton is contingent upon the specified condition, including viridans group streptococci, Vaginal Infections and Surgical Intervention. Onexton Toxicity & Overdose RiskThe lowest toxic dose of clindamycin in mice and rats is 2540mg/kg and 2190mg/kg respectively. If a person overdoses on clindamycin, they may experience abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In one case, a 3-year-old was given 100mg/kg for 5 days and only had mild abdominal pain and diarrhea. Activated charcoal can help to remove unabsorbed drug, but dialysis is ineffective. General supportive measures are recommended in cases of clindamycin overdose.
