What is Gelnique

OxybutyninThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryOxybutynin, also known as Ditropan XL, is a medication used to treat the symptoms of overactive bladder (OAB), such as frequent urination, urgency, and nocturia. It was approved by the FDA in 1975 and is often the first line of therapy for OAB. Oxybutynin helps to relieve the uncomfortable and embarrassing symptoms associated with OAB and can improve a patient’s quality of life.

Effectiveness

How Gelnique Affects PatientsOxybutynin helps to reduce the uncomfortable symptoms of overactive bladder, like feeling a strong urge to go to the bathroom and going to the bathroom often. It does this by blocking certain receptors in the bladder. However, it can also cause serious side effects like angioedema and anticholinergic effects like hallucinations, confusion, agitation, and drowsiness. If you experience any of these symptoms, stop taking oxybutynin and get medical help right away. It is also recommended to avoid operating heavy machinery until your response to oxybutynin has been monitored. Your doctor may need to adjust your dosage.
How Gelnique works in the bodyOxybutynin relaxes the bladder muscle by blocking the effects of acetylcholine. This leads to an increased capacity for urine in the bladder and a decrease in the frequency and urgency of urination. The active form of oxybutynin is metabolized into N-desethyloxybutynin, which targets muscarinic receptors in the bladder and helps to achieve these effects.

Gelnique for Urine Leakage When there is a Strong Desire to Void
Though this drug was highly effective in treating OAB, the "dry mouth" side effect became increasingly intolerable over time. Eventually, I stopped producing saliva entirely. This made me realize just how important saliva is! I'm now exploring other options with my doctor.

Gelnique for Overactive Bladder
I'm satisfied with this product, but it does unfortunately exacerbate my chronic dry eye. I'm currently using the 10% packets, but I might switch to the 3% to see if that still has the same effectiveness without as much drying.

Gelnique made my bladder feel a bit uncomfortable, but it did decrease the amount of times I had to go. I might try it again and see if there's any difference. It can be quite messy, though.

Gelnique for Overactive Bladder
I love the effects of this drug/delivery system, but develop a rash on all of the treatment areas, despite the fact that I rotate them daily to try and lessen the effect. The rash is small itchy bumps. Insurance doesn't cover the $200/mo cost, so I can't use it every month.

Gelnique for Overactive Bladder
I've been using this medication for two months now and it's really helped. I originally took it every day, but found that it was more effective and comfortable to take it every three days. After one month of use, my symptoms were alleviated by 90%!

Gelnique for Overactive Bladder
Gelnique was by far the most effective OAB medication I've tried, RX or OTC. The only downside was that it caused extreme dry mouth for me, to the point where I had to buy Biotene products. On occasion, it also made it hard for me to fall asleep at bedtime. However, due to being a newer drug, my out of pocket cost was $100/month. Being on Medicare and a fixed income, I had to stop taking it as couldn't afford it. Now, I'm looking into injections for OAB treatment options since they may be more affordable..

Gelnique for Needing to Urinate Immediately
I used this medication a few years ago and it worked great with no noticeable side effects. I started taking it again a couple months ago and my symptoms improved, but then I started feeling dizzy and nauseous to the point where I couldn't function. I stopped taking the medication 10 days ago and I'm back to normal now.

Gelnique for A Condition of Bladder Dysfunction from Nerve Disorder
The lower concentration pump gel worked great for me, but it was discontinued. The 10% packets are not nearly as effective; they don't absorb well and don't seem to work at all. I've only been using them for a week, so there's a chance they might improve, but I doubt it. The out-of-pocket expense is also quite high for such an ineffective product.

I've been using Gelnique for over two months now, and while it did help a little bit, my doctor added Sanctura. I'm now back to feeling like I'm not using anything at all. After trying everything else, my only options now are the implant, Botox, or acupuncture.

At first, I was convinced this would help me. And it did—for a little while. It became less effective the more I used it, though, so my doctor switched me to Enablex. I've tried a lot of different treatments and medications, but none of them seem to work in the long run.

Detrusor Nerve Radiofrequency Ablation for Overactive Bladder

22 - 80
Female
Palo Alto, CA
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if a vaginal radiofrequency (RF) device called MORPHEUSV works to treat overactive bladder (OAB) in women. Researchers also want to learn how safe the device is for this indication. This study will include women ages 22 to 80 who have had OAB symptoms for at least 6 months. The main questions it aims to answer are: Does the MORPHEUSV device lower the number of daily episodes of accidental urine leakage caused by urgency? Does it work better than a sham (placebo) treatment? Researchers will compare the MORPHEUSV device to a sham treatment to see how well it reduces symptoms of overactive bladder. Participants will: 1) Receive one session of either the MORPHEUSV or sham treatment. 2) Track their symptoms using a diary and questionnaires 3) Return for three to six follow-up visits over 12 months. This study is being conducted at multiple clinics in the United States.

Photobiomodulation for Autism

4 - 12
All Sexes
Phoenix, AZ
For this study, the proposed intervention will be noninvasively delivered near infra-red (NIR) light - transcranial Photobiomodulation (tPBM) - to the brains of autistic children. This will occur, twice a week, for 10 weeks. The NIR light is delivered to specific brain areas by Cognilum, a wearable device developed by Jelikalite. The expected outcome is improved focus, improved eye contact, improved speech, improved behavior, and gains in functional skills. Cognilum may impact the clinical practice of treating autism. At the beginning, at five weeks, and at the end of study, the clinician will complete the CARS-2, SRS, CGI, and a caregiver interview; additionally, questionnaires will be administered to caregivers during one of the 1-hour weekly treatment sessions.

MitoQ for Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms

50 - 75
Female
Farmington, CT
The goal of this clinical trial is to test the effect of a supplement called MitoQ (mitoquinol mesylate) on bladder symptoms such as urgency and frequency in women 50 years and older who have the metabolic syndrome. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Is the study design feasible and acceptable to participants? * Do participants taking the study drug get any improvement to their bladder symptoms compared to participants taking a placebo (a look-alike substance that contains no drug)? Participants will take 2 capsules of the study drug every morning for 4 months, answer many questions about their health including questions about their bladder health, perform physical and cognitive testing, give blood and urine samples, collect urine over 24 hour periods 3 times over the 4 months of the study, complete 3 day bladder diaries about how much they drink and void, undergo electrocardiograms, have their vitals and measurements (weight, height, waist circumference) taken, participate in 4 visits to the clinical research area and participate in many phone calls of varying length. Researchers will compare participants who were taking capsules containing MitoQ and participants taking capsules not containing MitoQ to see if MitoQ improves their bladder symptoms (urgency, frequency, nocturia, incontinence, etc.)
