What is Elestrin
Estradiol
The Generic name of this drug
Treatment Summary
Estradiol is a hormone naturally produced by females. It is available in several forms, including tablets, injections, vaginal rings, patches, sprays, gels, and creams. When taken orally or by injection, estradiol is usually combined with a pro-drug ester. Ethinyl estradiol (EE) is a synthetic form of estradiol that is used in most combination oral contraceptive pills. EE is more potent and has a higher bioavailability than estradiol, making it better suited for oral administration.

How Elestrin Affects Patients
Estradiol is used to help reduce symptoms such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness. It can also increase bone density and improve your lipids (fats in your blood). Estradiol increases the production of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and thyroid-binding globulin (TBG), and decreases follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in the pituitary gland. However, long-term use of estradiol may be linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and stroke, so should be avoided in those at high
How Elestrin works in the body
Estrogen is a hormone found in many tissues of the body, including the breast, uterus, ovaries, skin, prostate, bones, fat, and brain. In adult women, the ovaries produce most of the estrogen in the body. After menopause, though, the adrenal glands are the main source of estrogen. Estrogen has two main types: estradiol, which is stronger and more potent, and estrone. Estrogen works by binding to receptors in the body called estrogen receptors (ERα and ERβ). This causes a reaction in the cells that produces proteins which give estrogen its effects. In postmen
