In some cases, this can cause acute kidney failure and patients may need to take prednisone, get dialysis, or receive supportive care. Depending on the severity of the overdose, it may lead to long-term kidney damage. The LD50 in rats is greater than 2000mg/kg. It is not likely to be dangerous during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, but the risks and benefits should still be considered. Tests have not shown it to be carcinogenic or cause fertility problems in rats
